I don’t really know. With the cap set to go WAY up and all our good players locked in a low cost deals we could basically spend as much as we wanted so long as it didn’t hamstring us long term. I’d imagine he’ll be looking in the 12-13 million range. Steep price to pay but we could afford it and he’s an elite talent that would still be good for most of the deal. Him, Larkin, Ray, Mo, Simon, and Cossa/Augustine is a really good core group to contend with going forward.

tl;dr I think he’ll sign somewhere for 7 years x 12-13 million…

He has not looked good in Carolina. Looking more like his offense was a result of MacK. Not really interested.

Ok, lets entertain this idea:

Most hockey insiders agree that Yzerman needs to be a buyer (conservative) this TDL. There's been a few names kicked around out there as Detroit being linked to, most recently Cozens, Zegras, and Pettersson. After thinking about these three for a while, I am not sure I'd want to give away the assets (prospect-wise) to acquire any of these. I am fine with dealing picks (even a 1st) but I really don't want to give up on Danielson, MBN, ASP or Kasper. I'm even hesitant on trading away Wallinder, but I do understand that you have to give to get. Again, draft picks don't bother me at this point considering I think our pool is pretty deep right now. That being said, I wouldn't mind a couple of VETS being acquired to help a playoff run, but also a youngster to help solidify the future. I am thinking three guys, the two vets are on teams looking to continue or start the rebuild, I am talking about The Hawks Ryan Donato and Pitt's Erik Karlsson. The youngster I'd like is Bowen Byrum.

There is a good chance that we trade Tarasenko, so that will be trimming some cap off the roster. I am also ok with trading Berggren, Veleno, Rasmussen, a 1st, 2nd or 3rd, B level prospect like Viro, Hanas, or either of the Dower brothers, for example. I know Karlsson is 34, and he is not the 24 year old version of himself any longer, but with Pittsburgh looking to get out of the larger contracts, if we assumed the entire amount, it might not cost too much in assets to acquire him. I also wouldn't mind upping a deal and trying to acquire Cody Glass along with him. Ryan Donato is only 28 and could be a nice middle six player with a fair amount of playoff experience. He could also be extended as he is still young enough to be a core player. I don't see him costing more than a 3rd really, and that might even be a bit high. They could let the likes of Fischer walk and Donato would be a definte upgrade over him. Who knows, Motte might not even re-sign here. I'm hoping Kane does, but that's always a crapshoot too. Byrum is gonna cost some assets to acquire, and to re-sign him is going to be pricey, but the cap will be $95M next season. I can see him getting about $7M.

Copp was placed on IR today, and Dries has been called up from GR. I think this puts a emphasis on acquiring a legit NHL center. The wrong injury and we're doomed. BTW, Rasmussen is listed day to day. I think Zegras should get a suspension for his hit. The head was the principle point of contact.

Anyone interest you?

I've seen some suggest Ryan O'Reilly...2 years left under contract...Getting a little old, but might be useful.

Honestly, I am not against acquiring Ryan Donato. He shouldn't cost much to get, he's 28 and could be re-signed and be part of our core moving forward.

Obviously I would be ok with the higher end guys rumored to be on the block, like Cozens, but I am afraid of the price.
