I still maintain The Wings should be in on trying to acquire Cam Fowler. 

I also think they should be in on acquiring, if indeed Toronto is going to move him, Tim Liljegren.

This is what I'd be gunning for giving the predicament we're in.

We have to get rid of Chiarot, Gustaffson, and Husso.  Those are musts.  1/8 of the salary cap is taken up on those 3 guys.  That's a punch to the gut.  If that doesn't happen, we're in for another year of pain after this one.

I think we have seen the last of Husso. Granted it's not a big help to the cap, but at least he's not taking the roster spot up. I agree with Petry and Chiarot. Maybe if we're out of the playoffs come TDL, somebody wants his vet presence for a playoff run? We aren't unloading Petry to anyone, so I would hope (especially if we actually acquired Liljegren) that he would just be scratch. I'm ok with Gus, he's fine for a 3rd pairing with Holl. 

I also think DeCat is doing fine, 4 points 5 games. I have a feeling all of Motte, Fischer and Kane will be back next season as well. I would trade Veleno and Maatta if possible. Maybe Toronto would take a vet like Maatta (retained salary) and low pick for Liljegren?

I am gonna do some GM stuff at the pedia, and see how things might pan out.

Ok, here is what I'd like to see.

 

 

It's an expensive 4th line, but they do work well together (well they have in the past.)

This also leaves us with $1.8M in cap space. I am not sure Winnipeg would need or want Chiarot, but I just looked at teams that are going well and who maybe he would not nix a trade to. The 7th rounder isn't necessary, I'd even be fine with Future Considerations. It's actually a nice set of defense parings for the next 2 years. Much better that Chiarot, Petry and Maatta in the starting 6. Then if Rangers still want to dump Trouba over the summer, then swap him and Holl for next season.

 

 

Meanwhile, Kasper has been recalled for tonight's game, as has Holl.

I don't hate it for this year.  But starting next year, Edvinsson - Seider, Johansson - ASP has to be your top 4.  No exceptions.  They are our best (4) defensemen in our organization RIGHT NOW.

Honestly? 

No.

Me thinks Lalonde will remain behind the bench for the rest of this season - regardless of the results...He won't be offered a new contract summer 2025.

I can see that too... he's either gone tout suite or he'll ride out the season, don't see anything medium term.   It depends on if management wats to "try" for the playoffs or tank.

I think from D-Boss on down there's no faith in Lalonde and his 'system' - hence the lack of performance.

If there's any hope for 'April In The D' - aka playoff hockey - a change is certainly needed, but that's just our opinions.

And when I mean a change - I'm talking assistants too, but that is highly unlikely.

Watching Philly/Boston right now...Looks like the Bs are gonna win this and get outta their slump (for now) while Philly continues theirs.

Both coaches Montgomery and Tortorella are said to be on the hot seat...

Considering how long Yzerman let Blashill hang around, Lalonde definitely won't get fired. We're going to suffer through another non-playoff season, probably finishing even lower, thus wasting yet another year of Patrick Kane.

I think this push on D has really hampered the offense. Mickey just said it's a hard thing to transition from the last 2 years of offense first to defense first

I think Fester is clueless...The team (while better on paper) looks about the same as when Blashill was in Detroit.
