It's also not like any other team has an extra 8 million lying around ten days before the regular season starts.

Nope - not many...Utah, San Jose, Calgary, Anaheim, and Columbus...To be honest I haven't a clue as to which of those 5 would be interested in his services for his current salary demands and what Bruins brass would want in return.

Maybe Columbus, they just had a bunch of salary space open up :shocking:

Does Anaheim still have Gibson? They could make a trade there.

That makes a ton of sense, might be the only way to salvage something out of this. Pitiful asset management though, considering they already had a 31 year old (Vezina) winner on their roster. Imagine trading both Ullmark and Swayman and winding up with Gibson and Korpisalo in goal.

Would Detroit be able to shed enough salary to afford Swayman? Obviously Husso would have to go back, but that is not enough to pay out $8M-$9M. You'd have to hope that they'd also take Chiarot or Copp off our hands. All three have a 10-Team No Trade List, but Boston being much, much closer to winning a Cup, I can't imagine any of those three would nix a trade there. Swayman would definitely be a huge upgrade to what we have, we may have to include a young prospect to make it happen though. Who would that be? Lets say Husso and Chiarot are going back to Boston (opening up $9.5M in Cap for Detroit,) which prospect would be the icing on the cake to get a deal done? I am sure it'd have to be a grade A prospect, and maybe a draft pick to get Boston to trade to Detroit.

What say you? Which prospect and draft pick will it cost along with Husso and Chiarot?

Wings are capped out. Unless you can stomach more prospects and picks being lost to clear out contracts.

Well, that is what I am referring to. Obviously Swayman would move our G position to an elite-ish level, would it be worth it to deal, lets say a 1st and a Lombardi, or Wallinder to get that elite level goalie? I can imagine having Swayman and Cossa here in 1-2 years would give us a pretty similar G-room as Boston has had the last couple of seasons (projecting that Cossa works out.) Throw Augustine in that mix in about 4-5 years and that would be a nice G problem to have. And if Swayman helps us to become a perennial playoff team, giving up a 1st doesn't seem that bad.

Unless Boston takes our garbage - Swayman isn't worth it...He has a chip on his shoulder, had no problem using social media to make the Bruins brass look bad and/or to get them to meet his demands, and he's has about the same experience at the NHL level as Lyon.

Pass on Swayman. Now he's out here doing interviews were he said he still has a bitter taste in his mouth from his arbitration hearing last season. Apparently he's holding his team's feet to the fire because during arbitration he didn't get as much as he thought he was worth and he's holding out this year because he's all pissy pants about it.

What a loser, I'd rather wait on Cossa and Augustine.

Apparently he's on a bit of a crusade where he feels the need to set the tone for himself and for other goalies regarding future contracts...

Sounds like exactly the kind of player I want playing for a division rival.
