New Finnish guy

You mean the 18 year old thats behind about 7 other forward prospects?

If Yzerman can't move a dman, Ed is the only one waiver exempt. Which means he gets sent down.

Edvinssons on the team no chance he gets sent down. AJo would be waived before Big E 2.0.

Johansson is NOT waiver exempt. If he gets waived, he gets claimed. Ed is waiver exempt. If he gets sent down, he clears. Who do you honestly believe gets sent down to GR? And no, SY is not sending down Holl. He would buy him out before taking that cap hit.

Fischer played his best on a shutdown line with Copp and Ras. I expect that line to stay together.

They will try and waive him, but if no takers he probably stays up. That is too much salary on goalies if he goes down and Talbot and Lyon stay up.

That shouldn't be part of the equation.  Husso is a mistake, don't compound it by playing him just because you over paid him.

That can't happen... Yzerman may be in mortal danger if it does lol

Well, apparently there is a trade in place between Detroit and New York for Trouba. But everything hinges on Trouba blocking or accepting the move. If he accepts, then we have way too many D! Holl and another, maybe even another must go!

Here is what Brooks said on the matter: "If Trouba does not approve a trade to Detroit that is believed in place, he will ultimately be sent somewhere else, perhaps by waivers. The decision has been made."

I clicked on the wrong player. that Finn from Nashville is still playing in Liiga. Nevermind.

I suspect a trade or buyout before the season starts. Otherwise, Ed is the odd man out.

Edvinssons on the team no chance he gets sent down. AJo would be waived before Big E 2.0.

I do not at all agree.

1. Bad asset management. Yzerman has stated publicly he will keep Berggren and Johansson on the roster next year because he knows either woulf be claimed if he waived them. Waiver exempt guy goes down.

2. Edvinsson is not significantly better than Johansson right now. He's certainly our blue chip with the highest potential, but he's no where near the level of "too good to send down" yet. I don't know what you guys saw that I didn't last year. IMO he was very meh and uninspriring. Which was dissapointing considering Steve and Derek gave him all the icetime in the world to do something with, and really grab the bull by the horns. Don't get me wrong, he did not look like a liability out there, which was good to see, but he also made no real impact on any of the games. Completely replacable at the moment. IMO this is a kid who we are going to have to be patient with. He's on the Hedman route, not the Seider route, and he absolutely goes down if it means keeping Johansson.

3. Gustafsson signing indicates to me that the Red Wings are not confident that Edvinsson is ready for PP duties yet, and perhaps not a roster postion... With Ghost gone, no one on the D can QB except Seider. That 2nd unit QB spot in theory should go to Ed... but if he can't impact the game like that yet, like this past season briefly showed, we now have Gustafsson who can pick up the reins.

4. AJo is a very good player, and very possibly is more ready than Ed is right now. He's 2 years Ed's senior, and while Edvinsson might have the god given natural frame, Ajo has bulked up over the last two seasons and can now throw shoulders with much more authority. Ajo also won't be expected to play the PP like Eddogg will. He's more of a cerebral defensive Dman. His offensive skills are more limited to moving the puck north and out of the zone, and using his speed to jump in on a rush.

5. Yzerman stated at the end of the season that Ed doesn't have a roster spot yet. He'll be expected to again try and out compete someone for a spot at camp. Although regardless of whether he finally does that or not, I expect to see a lot more of him next season barring any setbacks.

Enjoy the hypium though

I was responding to Scott's question about what everyone was smoking. My answer was: truth. As in Ed gets sent down if no one else is moved. Just as I had said earlier. Check my posts, I agree with you.

This is typical Yzerman. He doesn't leave any open roster spots for kids. He fills them up and waits to see if a  kid forces his hand. He does this every year. I don't know why anyone is surprised.

You guys are all being stupid.  Sorry, but it's true.  Edvinsson is our 2nd best defensemen RIGHT NOW.  Not ceiling.  Not in a few years.  RIGHT NOW.  If the SCAM sends him down, it's bye bye 24-25.  Edvinsson could end up being our #1 defender this year.  In case you haven't noticed, Seider isn't on some massive growth curve that gets him into Norris consideration.  He's a 40-50 pt a year guy that plays good defense and that's it.  Edvinsson is the guy that could turn into Victor Hedman.  Not Seider.

As I've said before - we really don't have any generational talent, or guys close to it...We'll have a 'good' team in Detroit - just not likely to be 'great'.

'Minnesota Mediocrity' is real folks...

Should revive that thread!

As of right now Yzerman has restored the Holland limp train. IMO what he's trying to do is swing just enough to get this team competitive, and the boys driven and confident, but not swing so hard that it will cost him his futures. Then when his draft picks trickle onto the team they find themselves in already competitive enviroment among driven pros. I dont think he cares where in each round he drafts. He's going to try and do this by just being incredibly shrewd.

If Trouba allows the trade, we look better on D.

AFP projects Tarasenko at $4.15M. Roslovic at $3.1M. FWIW they project Sprong at $4.1M as well. I'd much rather have Tarasenko. Depending on what NYR retain on Trouba, and what goes back (if trade happens) Detroit may be able to afford Tarasenko (if he's interested) and still have enough money left over for the RFA's and kids.

I dont want a guy who just got stripped of his captaincy and traded 12 hours away from his wife and kid

Something has to happen. IMO, D didn't get any better, G is the same unless Campbell all of a sudden turns back into the All Star he was. F is very thin. Even with the 3 RFA's, that's only 11 signed. Unless we're going with more kids, something has to happen.

If I was a betting man I'd say Sprong will likely find out that most teams out there won't give him what he wants and he'll re-sign with Detroit for 1 to 3 years.
