I don't wanna HYPE! this kid up TOO much and I know I'm really banging this drum here...but it's wild how much hate I'm seeing for this pick. And 99% of it's because we didn't take Eiserman.

Maybe Eiserman's the better prospect. Maybe he's gonna be the better player. I don't know. No one does.

What I do know is there's risk with players like Eiserman. He was available at 15 because lots of other people passed on him. And they passed on him because of the risk.

I actually don't feel like finding pure scorers is a huge concern for us. Larkin scores. Raymond just put up 72 points. There's always trades and free agents. We pulled Kane out of our ass and he scored at a point-per-game clip.

I think players like the player MBN has the potential to be are arguably harder to find and arguably more valuable than the player Eiserman could be. Like I said a few posts back, it's rare to find a two-way power forward with a lethal shot. How many of those can you even name off the top of your head? So in that sense, I kinda feel like MBN is a bigger "swing for the fences" pick than Eiserman would've been.

I'm not one of those "TRUST THE YZERPLAN" bros. They annoy me. I just think most of the people complaining about this pick haven't actually researched the player. Because, again, he's pretty much the player they want.

He's just not the raw, oozing talent, fancy playmaker, that everyone wants us to draft (every season).

Reminds me of the Rasmussen pick. Nobody really complains about that pick anymore... though I would love to see Newsy give Ras some real offensive minutes this season, but I digress...

MBN is probably going to be similar. A swiss army knife style player that can play either wing, and on any line, and be responsible. And just like Ras he'll make the team faster than usual. And of courrse theres sniper potential with his shot.

If you listen to Yzerman (and Verbeek) he always says the number 1 thing he looks for is compete level. MBN has that in spades. The new Finnish kid we just traded for has that in spades. Meanwhile Walman was day drinking at the Tin Can on days between games during the slump. Where is he now?

Rounds 2-7. Any interesting players? Anyone got a run down or wanna type one?

This draft stunk, dude.  We locked up a 4th line RW.  Thats the summary.  The SCAM gets a C.  Zeev was there for the taking, and he passed.  Big mistake

I heard MBN banged Corey Perry's mom. All he does is win. It's incredible.

Buium was drafted 3 picks before Detroit's. How was he "there for the taking"? Unless you think he should have traded up. Which you think he is known to do.

I'm indifferent.  I feel like we came away with a 100% guaranteed bottom 6 winger that has 0% chance of getting to top 6 winger.  Is that acceptable from pick 15?  Yah.  Veegee (that's his nickname, btw) will be in the NHL quicker than most, as well.  So that's a bonus.  But could we have taken a flyer on Buium?  Yes to that, too.  Higher ceiling with Buium, but much lower floor.  He might take 5-6 years to get NHL ready to boot.  I think the SCAM made the conservative play, and I don't blame him for it.  But he usually presents us with a little more excitement on draft days.  This draft must have been a really bad one.

Plante sounds like another Yzerman compete level pick. Kid basically lives in hockey rinks. His grandfather coached. His father coached. The day he was born his parents took him to a hockey game. Said he IS at home he literally just watches hockey lol total rink rat. Fav player is Marchand bc Marchy is small but doesn't take s*** from no one (plante is small). Sounds like the kid is certainly gonna try.

Ondrej Beecher could very well be another Lombardi. Both late bloomers that got passed on at drafts, but are now suddenly each scoring machines. In Beechers case he realized his career would be over if he didnt change his game. Committed to completely overhauling it with his coach and now hes a 3rd round pick. Yzerman probably coomed his slacks when he found a kid who listens and works hard to implement what he's told.

Still gotta read about our other picks bc u ppl are a blackhole of information

I honestly know nothing about this part of hockey.  The SCAM is in his element for this, though.  What I could help the SCAM with is roster management.  Once the SCAM makes a decision on a guy, he rides the decision out.  That's a HUGE mistake in almost every profession.  You sink a cost in a player.  If there is no more to be gained from said player, you ditch the player.  You don't let him hurt your team.  Chiarot and Petry needed to be benched last year in favor of other players.  The SCAM gave them 20 minutes a night until we found ourselves out of a playoff position.  It was a complete mismanagement of player personnel.  I've never seen a GM/Coach do that to the extent that it happened last season.  Hoping that they do better this season, but it's not looking great so far after one day of UFA.  Time to start putting the screws to the SCAM and holding him accountable.

You're hoping against hope... we have an unrivaled collection of mediocre Defenceman and Goalies and we will use them to block ANY promising prospect until they're 28.

Heck we even package 2nd round picks with mid-Defenceman in an effort to free cap to sign multiple mediocre Defenceman.

Roster management is not the SCAM's forté.

You guys are right.  Jeff Petry is better than Edvinsson and Johansson.  Petry4Life

In his end of year callup Edvinsson managed 1 pt. In the same games Petry managed 5. So yeah, he's not very effective yet.

I was probably more bored than dissapointed with MBN. Obvious pick was obvious. I guess, was hoping for Steve to surprise me with a off the board pick or some moves, but here we are with Brosword-Nagger and if his shot is as good as they say he will be a good one. I like to be hype about prospects, what else fun have there been watching the Red Wings these last years?

I had no reaction to Max Plante, because I don’t follow prospects anymore before the draft outside the ones maybe being picked by >my team in the first round.
I really like this kid. Best passer in the draft, according to some experts I now suddenly trust. Short king with a sudden growth spurt, 5’11” right now growing into 6’-6’1”. Big personality.
