bIueadams 776 Report post Posted July 26, 2022 Kasper's father is reporting via george malik that Buffalo really wanted Marco and was trying to trade up and swap picks with Detroit to get him. Obvi SY said no. All this tells me is SY values Kasper quite a bit more than Savoie or anyone else drafted behind Kasper. This is good. 2 redw1ngs and town123 reacted to this

He had an ALRIGHT offensive year, while splitting time on the wing. People talk about how he's this offensive wizard but I don't see it. He had 90 points. For comparison's sake, that's 11 more points than offensive superstar Joe Veleno had in his draft year. It's 30 fewer points than actual offensive superstar Marco Rossi had in his draft year and he is similarly sized. If the idea is that you sacrifice size for offensive upside, then wouldn't you want a player who had shown he's capable of the offense? Kasper is the guy. I think you're looking at a Bo Horvat or Ryan O'Reilly type center here. He's a horse. I love what SY is doing here. He's got absolutely studs down the middle, on defense, and in goal. And he's surrounding them with guys like Raymond, Vrana, and Perron to score the goals. Love it. He will take a lot less time to get NHL ready than the other centers drafted. I wasnt excited at all that we didnt trade up for Jiricek, as I believe that guy will turn into Seider Lite. But I now believe we got the BPA at 8. If Kasper hits the gym hard like Veleno, he will blow by Joe and secure the #2 or #3 C position within 2-3 years. And not knocking Veleno. He is going to be a kick ass 3rd/4th line C. And we need that too.

I'm glad that Larkin is young enough to really push Kasper when he makes the team. I see no reason to think Kasper doesn't have Larkin-esque upside. 1 redw1ngs reacted to this
bIueadams 776 Report post Posted July 26, 2022 I hope Kasper comes in and takes a full on steaming dump on Larkin and steals his 1C spot forcing Larkin to play wing like the lil ***** he is.

I side with Yzerman saying that Kasper has underrated skill the same thing he said about Seider after all the pundits questioned his offensive skill. Kasper is a great skater with elite hockey iq and compete all things Yzerman covets. Marco will be elite just like Moritz. Yeah. There was concern from a lot of analysts about his offensive potential. Sorry if that offends you. 15 hours ago, bIueadams said: Some folks never learn. Yzerman got exactly who he wanted. He has certainly earned the benefit of the doubt, but there were other guys I liked more. I have cautious optimism for Kaspar. As I do with every other pick. I watched the proapect tourney, and I can tell you he's nowhere near Larkin. Nowhere. Larkin is 3 steps above him from a skating standpoint, and that means everything. Kasper will have to gring out points. Battle for board wins and distribute for assists, slip off of defenders and open up for passes to shoot. He will not be able to create his own space and beat defenders with his skating. Two entirely different players. Joe Veleno IS a good comparable. The difference between the two is that Kasper will more than likely do Joe Veleno A LOT better than Joe Veleno.

It doesnt offend me I just find it funny when people act as if they personally scout these players. You worry about his offensive potential? Based on what? the athletic articles/rankings? Craig Button? I dont know bout you but I put more stock in SY rather then those schlubs. 1 hour ago, Jonas Mahonas said: I watched the proapect tourney, and I can tell you he's nowhere near Larkin. You clearly dont remember Larkins scouting profile in his draft year. I think Larks may be one of the best comps for Kasper out there. MK has a much higher ceiling then JV. I have a life, a job, a family, and a home. I don't have time to scout Kaspar or any other players. I rely on analysts for that. And if a lot of them are consistently saying the same things about a player, then I have concerns. I don't know why that bothers you, but whatever.

You clearly havent seen Kasper skate. There is a big difference in whether or not a player can put it together when they skate like Connor McDavid vs. when they skate like Joe Veleno. Kasper is NOT silky on his skates. Is he a bad skater? No. Is he anywhere near Larkin? Also no. “Two-way player at the centre position who displays excellent balance and jump all over the 200 foot sheet. Sees the ice well and makes plays in the offensive zone with both skill and grit. Plays strong on the puck and shows some snarl in the battle zones.” https://thehockeywriters.com/dylan-larkin-the-next-ones-nhl-2014-draft-prospect-profile/ This article says "jump, strides, tenacity, etc.". What they failed to say is that he's fast as f%&k. That's his greatest attribute. He's one of the league's top 3 skaters. Kasper might have even more skill and hockey IQ than Larkin. But without the wheels, that just makes him a good Joe Veleno.

Im not saying Kaspers as good a skater as Larkin but hes a very fluid skater and just 18yo and the rest of his game is similar to Larks in a lot of ways. The reason Larkin exceeded expectations draft profile and draft slot is because of his work ethic and tenacity. Imo Kasper will do the same.

I think Zetterberg ceiling, Veleno floor is a better analogy, but lets see what happens. Hopefully youre right and this cat enters the nhl with a lightning bolt up his a$$. F.Michael 4,590 Report post Posted August 1, 2022 Reading how Buffalo really wanted him makes me feel that this kid has Ryan O'Reilly potential (minus the creating a new 'drive thru' window at a Tim Horton's at 2am). 1 Jonas Mahonas reacted to this
