This team wouldnt be a contender next season even with Lindholm.

This summer:

  • We will have roughly $30 million to spend
  • We need to re-sign Zadina, Stephens, and possibly Juolevi - this will be cheap cheap cheap
  • We need a backup goalie - probably a wash here but maybe we sign JVP for cheap cheap
  • We are most likely graduating Veleno and Edvinsson to the NHL on ELC's
  • So conservatively we will have roughly $25 million to address needs

Bertuzzi - Larkin - Raymond
Vrana - _______ - ________
Fabbri - Suter - Zadina
Rasmussen - Veleno - Erne
Stephens/Smith

_______ - Seider
_______ - Hronek
Edvinsson - Lindstrom
Juolevi/Oesterle

Ned
Backup

We can afford to spend $5 million for each blank position and still be in the same cap situation we are today. Roughly $5 mil in the bank.

BUT WHAT ABOUT NEXT YEAR! WE'RE F#&$ED!!!

Next year:

  • We shed another $8.5
  • So would have roughly $13.5 to hand out raises with
  • Larkin, Bertuzzi, Veleno, Lindstrom, and Ned will need new contracts
  • This should be more than enough to cover all that and then some.

I think it behooves us to go out and spend this year. Throw $14-16 mil and 5-7 year term at Hertl/Lindholm. Then spend your remaining $10 mil conservatively on short term contracts. This wouldn't damage our designs for the future besides picking lower and we'll have enough for Seider when the time comes.

At this point we need good players around and supporting our young stars in Seider/Raymond/Edvinsson, and we need to show Larkin and Bertuzzi we are pushing forward to win. I could see a guy like Bertuzzi taking his services to market if we continue to put no good faith effort forward.

I would be ok with Hertl, but Strome and Trochek are both RH and will probably be cheaper for the 2C. That's were SY needs to spend his cap space.

Also, there is zero chance SY signs and/or trades for a 2C, 2W, and 2 top 4 D all in one off season.

Berggren should make the team as well. Unless he is moved, with Wallinder or Johansson, for a 1D?

I would like them to put Zadina back on the first line for the remainder of the season. He may even stick. If not, move him to 2nd line back with Vrana where he seemed to have success and move Bertuzzi up. I just don't like him with Suter.

Zadina - Larkin - Raymond

Vrana - Hertl - ?

Bertuzzi - Suter - Fabbri

You could run 18-18-18 minute lines and everyone should be happy, so long as we are winning.

The D is a little tricky. We have true top pairing potential / already there defensemen (Seider/Edvinsson), a plethora of top 4 candidates (Wallinder / Johansson / Hronek / Buium), and a bevy of bottom pairing (Lindstrom / Sebrango top the list). Not including guys on expiring contacts.

But for a handful of guys - and, especially important, the middle bunch - you're probably 2-3 years away. That totally screws our timeline up front.

That's what makes me believe a move for a guy like Chychrun should occur now. Even if you have to give up some important depth pieces, I think we've done well enough at drafting that we can move two of our top five defensive prospects and one or two of our top five offensive prospects, intrigue another team, and still leave ourselves with a pipeline.

If this team can hold on to Edvinsson and still acquire another 1D.... watch out. The rebuild is over.

I dont know what NCHC is but two Wings prospects are on the team so I bet its good.

It's just a conference of college hockey

But this is a pretty good conference. St Cloud, Minnesota Duluth, and North Dakota are all in it. Good programs. Yet Denver now has 4 of the top 6 rookies. Dats bretty gud.

8, Jack McBain, C, Boston College. Played on Team Canada in the olympics. Rumored to not be signing with Minny and they are shopping his rights. Looks like Velenos r-slur twin.

I think we should do this:

Vrana - Larkin - Raymond
Fabbri - Suter - Bertuzzi
Rasmussen - Veleno - Zadina ($2 x 2)
Smith - Stephens ($800K x 1) - Erne
Pearson ($800K x 1)

Lindholm ($8 x 5) - Seider
Chiarot ($5 x 2) - Hronek
Oesterle - Lindstrom
Juolevi ($800K x 1)

Nedeljkovic
van Pottleberghe ($1 x 1)

Commit to Lindholm being our Vet blueliner till he's 33.
Overpay Chiarot to keep his term short at 2 years.
Test out JVP as backup.

Roughly $11.5 left in the bank, with another $8.5 million coming off the books next year. Use roughly $7-8 that next year to hand out raises to our big players. With $12 mil left over to shop with and extend Seider with. At this point Chiarot will have only x1 year left on the roster, and Lindholm x4. Edvinsson will likely be on the roster full time replacing Oesterle and/or Juolevi, and we'll have someone like Johansson as a callup prepared to take Chiarot's spot when he's gone.

1. Lindholm is not going to sign for only 5 years.

2. McIsaac, Edvinson, Wallinder, Johannson, Buium. Too many D that will need spots on the roster. Chances are, we have our top 2 LD to go with Seider and Hronek on that list. And they will be way cheaper than Lindholm, and hitting their prime when Lindholm is past his.

1. Then sign him for 7

2. We have no one knocking on the door besides Edvinsson

We won't have a chance to sign Lindholm.  He will go 9 for 8 with Anaheim.  They'll offer 8 for 8 and get it done at 9 for 8.  Wings aren't going to go to 11 for 7 to snag him.

Yeah but Ducks might trade Lindholm at this TDL

If we can't score Lindholm, we need guys similar to him. Left handed, and whom can actually defend.

In this order:

  1. Ben Chiarot - Probably will be a bidding war and we won't get
  2. Mark Giordano - Won't be available, going straight back to Calgary
  3. Alexander Edler - 36 years old, offer $3.5 x 1
  4. Alex Goligoski - 37 years old, offer $5 x 1
  5. Calvin De Haan - 31 years old, offer $3.5 x 3
  6. Nikita Zadorov - 27 years old, offer $4 x 3
  7. Olli Maata - 28 years old, offer $3 x 3
  8. Might as well just re-sign Staal after this

Edler and Goligoski can both score and defend, they're just old as dirt and I worry they will hit a wall soon or get injured. But it might be nice having a vet in the locker room who can wear an A. We can at least dump them at the end of the season too. De Haan, Zadorov, and Maata can't score to save their lives, but are decent stay at home guys with some youth on them still. Maata and De Haan had some shine come off of them these past years and might be motivated to come and play with Seider to reignite their positions in the league. Zadorov has been forced down the CGY lineup and might feel the same way about his ice time which we can give him.

Sign 1 of Edler/Goligoski
Sign 1 of De Haan/Zadorov/Maata

:ok:
