Part of me thinks he's gonna have a 40 pt season next year in Seattle's top6 when they afford him opportunity. But if Blash is never gonna trust him and never give him that opportunity in Detroit then it does us no good to keep him here.

I just don't see it in him. He'll have his little streaky moments, but he is mostly invisible. I said before if that kid wants a long NHL career, he has to change things up and make himself a valuable bottom 6 winger. Learn how to be effective without the puck, hit, etc.

The kid just offers nothing when he isn't scoring. Sadly he does not score enough to offset that.

I hope you're right though. I hope he gets to go elsewhere and put up 40 points a year. It'll never happen here with the depth on wing we have in the pipeline.

I'd be pumped if we only lost Svech. He's the most expendable as far as I'm concerned.

Of that list: take DD please.

Betting Lines Favor Svechnikov to Seattle

  • Svech +120
  • Namestnikov +140
  • Dekeyser +200
  • Cholowski +400

Stecher not listed.

Pretty sad that Seattle would have more interest in Dekeyser than Cholowski.

He still has the ability to be a decent middle six winger, IMO. Kinda reminds of Jarnkrok and Janmark in that they were both decent NHL forwards who were never given a chance in Detroit.

svechnikov has been given way more of a chance than either of those guys though

Serious injuries, followed by a coach with no trust in him. Would have liked to see more opportunity in a middle 6 role. Not saying he will be as good as a Jarnkrok or Janmark, but definitely better than a Pulkkinen or Nestrasil.

Who does he beat out for a job in the middle 6?

Bert, Vrana, Zadina, Fabbri, Namestnikov, Erne. All better than Svech. Assuming Yzerman brings in center depth, you'll have Ras join that list. We'll have Raymond and Berg knocking on the door from GR. And this assumes he doesn't even sign another winger!

Bert, Vrana, Larkin, Namestnikov, Zadina, Fabbri in the top 6. Ras, Erne, Svech on the 3rd line.

Namestnikov has only 1 year left. Bring up Raymond or Berggren next season to replace him.

Fabbri has only one year left. Trade him at the TDL and bring up Veleno full time.

Erne is also easily let go in favor of one of the kids. Or Bert may be traded which opens up a spot.

So we're gonna keep Veleno in GR to make room for Svech? No thanks.

We're gonna trade Fabbri to make room for Svech? No thanks.

We'll dump Erne to make room for Svech? No thanks.

And this is all assuming Yzerman signs ZERO forwards, which will not happen. People need to face facts. Svech is done in Detroit.

I am not advocating for replacing any if those players with Svech. I am simply giving a scenario where he could be kept without losing better players or keeping kids down who need to be on the roster.

Top 6 as of now: Larkin, Vrana, Bert, Zadina, Namestnikov, Fabbri.

Bottom 6 as of now: Ras, Svech, Erne, Smith, Nielsen, Panik.

Still room to re-sign Glendening.

Pipeline: Raymond, Berggren, Veleno

I don't see Raymond or Berggren ready to make the leap next season. And Veleno could use a little more seasoning as a center in GR, IMO. And if Seattle takes Namestnikov, there is room for Veleno on the roster to start the season.

If he isn't picked, at 28, I think Namestnikov is a little too old to fit into Yzerman's rebuild timeline. Since it's his last season on his contract, he could be flipped at the TDL for a pick, and Veleno could be brought up onto the roster permanently at that time.

Nielsen is gone after this season. You could bring up either Berggren or Raymond next year to take his spot.

The only issue next season at forward, is Fabbri. If SY wants to keep him, someone would have to be moved in order to make room for both Raymond and Berggren. He could choose not to re-sign him, demote a forward to GR, or make a trade. Regardless, it may be a moot, as SY may trade another roster player between now and then.

Point being, I think Svech's development was stifled by injury, and I would like to see if he might still develop into an NHL regular. And it is possible to do it without hurting the roster or player development.

I swear, if Yzerman leaves Stecher unprotected it will be the first time I will be disappointed in Steve.

Stecher is better than Cholowski and Lindstrom together.

Yeah. But he only has one year left in his contract and he may not fit into Yzermans plans anyway. Short term, he is definitely a better option than either of those 2. In the long run tho, it might be for the best.

The worry with Bishop for the Stars (and probably for Seattle too) is what even is he now?

yeah that's fair. why i added "provided he's healthy"... obviously that'll be a factor. but they likely don't get an obvious #1 goalie the way vegas was gifted MAF. Bishop seems like a decent snag though.

so, Leddy is obviously protected now, right?

Hronek, Leddy and.... Lindstrom? on defense. (thinking they just keep the youngest for the third d-man given our current state)

Forward: Larkin, Vrana, Rasmussen, Bertuzzi, Fabbri, Zadina, Smith?

I feel like Seattle takes either Cholowski, Dekeyser, or Namestnikov.... unless they reach a deal with Bernier and don't find their goalies elsewhere

I'd protect both Stecher and Cholowski over Lindstrom. But yeah, I don't like this move for the expansion draft...

Zadina is exempt from the expansion draft. I think that last spot will go to Erne.

Yeah, it's honestly a toss up between the three for the last defensive protection, imo.

Zadina is exempt? even better. I thought it was only 1 or 2 year pros who were though? or does zadina's first year not have enough games to qualify or something?

agree it's erne if zadina is exempt though.

Leddy,Hronek and Stecher. Stecher was Team Canada´s best defenseman at the WC, played really solid for us and will give us a nice return at the deadline. Cholo, Lindström and DDK are bottom pairing players at best and replaceable and I think Seattle is going for a forward anyway. Honestly look at the three, Cholowski didn´t get his s*** together in three seasons and it´s not looking like he´s going to get it done anytime soon. Lindström will probably never make it permanently to the roster, maybe a fringe NHL´er and DDK is more injured than playing and on the wrong side of his prime.
