I'd say Canada has some poor coaching in this game too. A goalie change when down 3-0 in the first period should be an automatic to wake up a team. Not to mention the first goal was offsides... twice, and no challenge. How has Veleno been?

arag 308 Report post Posted December 28, 2019 Mo is pretty good. Stutzle look pretty good also. Germans are getting better and better in hockey. Few years from now they might be the team to beat in international tournaments.
ely s 458 Report post Posted December 28, 2019 (edited) on monday 9 am ET we are able to see Veleno go against Mo. Will be an interesting game, especially after that Canadian blowout loss to the russians edit: I´ve only seen the last period of that game, but if that is what Canada has to offer Germany has a chance Edited December 28, 2019 by ely s

He’s getting it checked in Calgary from the Doctors as well. Let’s hope he comes back after the germs game. Being Canadian that was the worst loss in our history and we need to bounce back. Goalies for us have been absolute garbage like Howard and bernier. 1 Dabura reacted to this

kipwinger 8,675 Report post Posted December 30, 2019 Very, very, disappointed in Veleno. He's supposed to be a leader on this team, instead he's losing (and using) his head and putting his team in a hole. Another black mark for a prospect who's already pretty suspect. kipwinger 8,675 Report post Posted December 30, 2019 Seems pretty clear that the Canadian squad's frustration level has completely boiled over after their team leadership, including Veleno and Hayton, have been resoundingly outplayed by their peers. Hard to see how getting absolutely SMASHED by your biggest rival, losing a premier talent to injury, and watching your team leadership piss their pants can be spun as a good thing. Veleno and Hayton should be stripped of their letters if Canada wants to save any face at all.

Veleno "head butted" a Russian player, aka gave him a love tap. Lapse in judgement. To suggest either should have their letters stripped is a joke. They have been two of their best forwards (outside of Lafreniere). Team Canada should be ashamed by their performance yesterday afternoon, but to place the blame on either of those guys individually is dumb. 2 minutes ago, mackel said: You're living proof of that @krsmith17 Keep telling yourself that bud. Who else should be blamed for their lapses in judgement? That's two lapses in judgement in a game against your biggest rival, by two team leaders. And can't we reasonably surmise that "leaders" who aren't dialed in to the task at hand, and keep having lapses in judgement A) are not demonstration the proper level of commitment, focus, determination, and intelligence necessary to win a tournament like this, and B) therefore, shouldn't be leaders at all. I say give the "C" to Lafreniere. I realize he's hurt, but at least he'd give the team something to play for. They currently can't put their egos aside long enough to play for their country...obviously.

Veleno wasn't even penalized for the "head butt", and there shouldn't have been a suspension for the tap on the visor. What Hayton did was likely because he was too dialed in. He apologized and said as a leader, he was trying to process the game and evaluate how they could regroup. Got lost in the moment. Also said he knows he needs to be better. There's nothing wrong with the leadership group. The entire team needs to be much better. 1 Akakabuto reacted to this

Yup, exactly how they drew up yesterday's game as well. They lost 6-0, obviously because Veleno tapped a guy in the head, even though it had no effect on the game (no penalty called) and likely no one even knew it happened (other than the two involved in the altercation) until AFTER the game, and Hayton not removing his helmet, AFTER the game...
