They can decide to put him on it, they just submit a request. But I'm pretty sure they'll have him play at least one game regardless. Can't see a $5 mill + healthy player being shafted like that.

Only one name has been added to the Cup against the rules over the years. When the Edmonton Oilers won their first championship in 1984, owner Peter Pocklington included his father's name, Basil Pocklington, among the names engraved. It was later scratched out with a series of Xs.

 

I don't think that having a 5 million dollar salary would count as an extenuating circumstance. That said, if Vegas does make the Finals (which I don't think they will), I'm sure he would be used for at least one of those games, so its probably a moot point.

But is that a knock on Tatar, or just a situation where Gallant is more comfortable with the guys he's coached all season and wants to roll with them? Even though McPhee gave up three high picks for him, he's not needed unless there's an injury. But they had picks to spare, so why not grab some insurance i guess.

No, his salary means nothing. You have to meet the minimum game requirements. Downey didn't dress for any playoff games in '08, but played more than enough regular season games to qualify. He deserved it imo.

2. Slegr earned it legitimately. He had no control over being traded at the deadline to the team that would eventually win the Cup. He had nothing to do with Fischer being suspended in the Finals resulting in his playing in one game. The rules say that if you play one Finals game, you get ur name on the Cup. He did it honestly and by the rules. He didnt manipulate things to make it happen. It was completely circumstancial. He has nothing to feel bad about. There are alot of names on the cup that shouldnt be. Slegr's isnt one of them.

He's a member of the Triple Gold Club. He may have been fortunate when it comes the Stanley Cup, but you don't just luck your way into that prestigious honor.

He's still a UFA. Turns 33 in Decemeber. Been a solid 2nd line winger in the league since he left us.

Bertuzzi and Tarasenko took $5 mil x 1 year deals. We have roughly $6 mil in capspace. Tatar is coming off a $4.5 AAV cap hit. I'd try to get him on a $3.5 - $4 x 1, with the promise to sell him to a contender at the deadline, unless we're in serious playoff position.
