NerveDamage 4,176 Report post Posted April 6, 2016 We were totally spoiled back then. I can remember pretty much just waiting for the playoffs every year as the regular season just felt like they didn't matter. It was never a question of will we get in, but rather will we be #1 or #2 seed. I'm definitely more invested in the regular season in 2016. Oh I know we all were, I just disagree with the "it's not fun because it's uncertain" I mean, it adds to the excitement of actually watching a game where so much is on the line. 1 krsmith17 reacted to this

kickazz 5,459 Report post Posted April 6, 2016 To be honest I'd rather have us be in a comfortable position and get into playoffs than go through this nervous wreck. It would be one thing if our talent clicked like they did in 2013... Now THAT was a fun year to watch... Zet, Dats and Howard were absolutely dominating with 4 or 5 games left. We needed to win like 4 games to get in and we did it beautifully. Such an epic finish... And then we upset Anaheim.. even more epic!

We needed to win like 4 games to get in and we did it beautifully. Such an epic finish... And then we upset Anaheim.. even more epic! And then taking the champs to game 7 OT. Lilja-esque giveaway from Quincey from possibly going all the way. That was a good run for the regular season we had. Probably the best run since 09? Or maybe the almost comeback from 3-0? I can't remember which year it was but one of those Sharks series were stolen by the refs. I still remember the phantom calls on Bert at crucial times. We were some puck luck away from making some decent runs but at the same time it was frustrating how Kenny would never make the big move to push us over. And here we are now the same situation but older and not as good. The team's really relied on the vets to turn it up in the playoffs but since last year Kronwall and Z have really fallen off a cliff. I don't think we give a team as good as Tampa last year much of a fight this time around. Edited April 6, 2016 by Number19

Number19 159 Report post Posted April 6, 2016 (edited) If we can get that exact route through the playoffs I can agree with the percentages. We dodge all the experienced and healthy teams. Tampa has major injuries and NYI has no goalie if Halak is still out by the 2nd round. Florida gets dicey but maybe we have a chance (lol) with their lack of experience. If we get paired against Pitt or WSH we get blasted out of the playoffs. I guess we'll find out if we have a chance in a series vs Philly by tonight. NerveDamage 4,176 Report post Posted April 7, 2016 We need to lock 3rd place up tonight and then let BOS/PHI fight it out for the WC spot. You're damn right! I still hope for us to pass Tampa and get Home Ice, though they visit NJD and MTL. So as long as they lock 3rd place today I'm happy.

FireCaptain 563 Report post Posted April 7, 2016 They only have a 25 - 37% chance of being in 3rd instead of 2nd. However, in either scenario they have an 85% of meeting the Wings in the first round right now (basically us or BOS until that scenario works itself out). http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL/Eastern/Atlantic/TampaBay2.html Do you think we have a chance at overtaking Tampa? Even if the Flyers and Islanders both make the playoffs with better records than us? Strange format the league cornered itself into a few years ago. I'd do away with divisions altogether. Just have two Conferences, no divisions. That would get rid of this quirky system.

FireCaptain 563 Report post Posted April 7, 2016 Flyers and Islanders can't take third in Atlantic b/c they're in the Metro division, so yes, best Flyers can do at this point is the remaining WC spot. Boston, however, being in Atlantic, can kick us out of 3rd and force us to fight for the WC spot. So we can't be a Wild Card because we finish 3rd in the division?
