joesuffP 1,746 Report post Posted October 6, 2015 I'm not giving up on Jurco, but the pressure is on. Nobody is going to wait for him to get comfortable as a 3rd line scorer when we have a bunch of guys fighting for that spot. Somebody will take that spot and run with it. I think Jurco is capable of doing that but theirs a lot of options. Don't be surprised if he gets benched after a handful of games if he's not producing only because it's a very competitive roster. I like Jurco but I also want to see other guys get a look in that role. We might even have Nyquist or Tatar on the third so that shows how tough it will be

Basically saying if you can't steal a top 9 spot from someone, you're going to sit. That being said, I bet Jurco plays Saturday in Carolina. krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted October 7, 2015 So it appears that Larkin has made the team as a top 6 winger... What the F***? The promotion makes a bit of sense if you're thinking you don't want Zetterberg to play center, but zero sense in my opinion, if you're having Zetterberg play center and Larkin on the wing... Jurco continues to get mishandled... Unreal... I'm happy to see Glendening back in that 4th line center slot, where he belongs, and also happy to see Ferraro in the lineup over that scrub Andersson... krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted October 7, 2015 I'm not hating on the kid at all. He's already one of my favorite players within the organization. I just don't think he should be up with the Wings yet, more specifically as a winger. He's our future number one center, play him where he's most comfortable, play Zetterberg where he's most comfortable... Makes no sense to me... As for Jurco, as I've made very clear, Larkin should be down in Grand Rapids, so there's Jurco's spot in the lineup... However I do agree with you, I would much prefer seeing him sub in and out of that 3rd line position with Pulkkinen and/or Franzen than see him down on the 4th line where Babcock had him all last season... 2 MaynardJmzKeenan and rick zombo reacted to this
kipwinger 8,732 Report post Posted October 7, 2015 (edited) I'd rather see Dylark in the AHL until he can take over full time for Richards next season. Or barring injury. Also, I'd like to see Pulkkinen on the bench, Nyquist in his spot, and Jurco with Tatar and Richards, but that's just me. kipwinger 8,732 Report post Posted October 7, 2015 Which is what's happening now, and probably why he's on the team no? I should have been more clear. Barring injury to a center. I never, ever, want to see Larkin (or Athanasiou) play on the wing when we've got really good wingers sitting on the bench or in the AHL. Need a top six winger? Give Mantha or Bertuzzi a call. Need a center? Larkin and AA are your guys. 1 krsmith17 reacted to this

kipwinger 8,732 Report post Posted October 7, 2015 Doesn't AA also play LW though? And Datsyuk and Zetterberg alternate between C and LW, maybe AA and Larkin can do the same. That's mostly true. Datsyuk has never really played significant time on the wing. He did for like 5 games one season under Babs and it didn't really pan out. But otherwise I agree with you. They "could" do it. But so can the natural wingers, of which we have a million. So why not leave the wingers as wingers and the centers as centers? What value added is Larkin on the wing over Pulkkinen, Jurco, Mantha, or Bertuzzi? 1 krsmith17 reacted to this

kipwinger 8,732 Report post Posted October 7, 2015 (edited) If he's the better player and playing wing doesn't take away from that, I think he adds value. Maybe. But I'm not sure he's any better than the guys who he'd replace as a top line winger. If it were me, I'd bump everyone up one line and fill in from the third. For instance: Nyquist-Z-Abby Tatar-Richards-Jurco/Franzen Pulkkinen-Sheahan-Jurco/Franzen In this scenario Nyquist gets the spot on the top line. And it's doubtful that Larkin is better than Nyquist (at this point). And Jurco fills the empty spot created upon Nyquist's promotion (rather than be a healthy scratch as he is now). I love that Larkin's on this team now. Maybe it's just because it's exciting? That being said, if they had sent him to GRs I would have been OK with that too. But I'd rather have him on the top line right now over Athanamanthanatuzzi. Edited October 7, 2015 by rick zombo 1 T.Low reacted to this
