Right to 3-on-3. 5 minutes sudden death. No goal, it goes to shootout. number9 3,297 Report post Posted June 24, 2015 Shootout are a simulation of a breakaway. I'm guessing 3 on 3 ends up being a simulation of 3 on 2 breakaway almost every time up the ice. Should be interesting. I bet we see a lot less SOs. Cool. They should just ditch the shootouts altogether. What happens if somebody gets a penalty in OT My 100% shot in the dark guess is that the team that did not take the penalty gets to send another player onto the ice. So 4 on 3. Yep. "Gimmick" is the best way to describe this. bring back ties I'm all for this. I like the system before the late 90's, where you play an OT, and if no one scores, no one gets an undeserved extra point. If neither team deserves to win, neither should get an extra point.
