amato 3,210 Report post Posted June 23, 2015 The Detroit Red Wings today announced head coach Jeff Blashill's staff: Tony Granato and Pat Ferschweiler will serve as assistant coaches on the bench, Chris Chelios will work with the defense, Dave Noel-Bernier will be the video coach and Jim Bedard returns as goaltending coach. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2015/06/tony_granato_pat_fershweiler_w.html Figured it could use its own topic.. Wings_Toledo 233 Report post Posted June 23, 2015 I like the combination of NHL experience and including another coach who helped develop the Griffins. Also, Chelios working with the defensemen during practice is a great idea.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted June 23, 2015 Why no official title for Chelios, though? Everyone else had a title listed, but Chelios will just "work with" the defense? Why not just name him a defensive coach?

Why not just name him a defensive coach? Chelios should be on the bench. Then we'd have more recognizable people on our bench. And sirdrake might come back. 3 Detroit \# 1 Fan, Izzy24 and marcaractac reacted to this

kickazz 5,459 Report post Posted June 23, 2015 (edited) One of the most experienced NHL coaching staff to the least experienced NHL coaching staff. All in a matter of one month. Here's to good fortune. Get 'em Blash. Edited June 23, 2015 by kickazz
Euro_Twins 4,485 Report post Posted June 23, 2015 One of the most experienced NHL coaching staff to the least experienced NHL coaching staff. All in a matter of one month. Here's to good fortune. Get 'em Blash. Not sure what you mean? Neither hiller or brewer had any nhl coaching experience prior to last year, and brewer didn't even have ahl experience. The only experienced assistant we had is still there, granato. So we lost an experienced coach in Babcock and gained arguably the best ahl coach in his place, so there we lost experience. But everything else is pretty much a write off

Though i am pleased that we keep Granato at the very least.
Jacksoni 418 Report post Posted June 23, 2015 Keeping Granato was big I believe. He knows his special teams stuff and the players respond to him. Great resource. Chelios´s title is something like "Assisting advisor to the general manager" or the like, I read it on mlive if I recall correctly. 1 drw138 reacted to this

Chelios is "Advisor to hockey operations". Though on the Wings mobile site, he's now listed as an assistant coach.

Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted June 24, 2015 I like the choices. Familarity was what Blash went with, so now we'll continue to build from within. Now a couple of days to see if we add any bodies or just go with the kids.
