amato 3,210 Report post Posted April 30, 2015 What are the chances the Pens fire their coach and get Babcock? I think they already announced that their coaching staff would be back next year.. babs being available could change things though, no doubt. If Babcock doesn't coach the wings next year though, I hope he goes to the western conference. 2 Hockeymom1960 and MrazekFanBoy reacted to this

Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted April 30, 2015 Here's my problem with Mike. He comes out last night and says "we battled our butts off to get in the playoffs" and "the media didn't pick us to make the playoffs" So in that vain it's a great coaching job. Yeah, not so fast. This team was pushing for tops in the East in February, Mike came out to the media and said this was the best team he's coached since 09 a couple of months ago. Holland picks up 2 guys who, at the time, seemed like great fits. We sputtered down the stretch, what happened to our amazing coach? Yes, Mike is one of the best coaches in hockey. I'll never dispute that, but I think I've heard one to many Babockisms, and I'm ready for a change. 3 GMRwings1983, MrazekFanBoy and Jericho613 reacted to this

joesuffP 1,746 Report post Posted April 30, 2015 Some good coaches available actually. If Babs leaves, it won't be too devastating. I think he was a huge part of our success in the playoffs but some new blood wouldn't be the worst thing ever. I do hope he resigns though. Although, coaches would love to come here where they are treated with a lot of respect
kipwinger 8,754 Report post Posted April 30, 2015 My votes would be Tippett (if available), Blash, McClellen, Granato. 1 MrazekFanBoy reacted to this

Hack & Whack Rule! 160 Report post Posted April 30, 2015 I don't know, I just hope it isn't Babcock. It seems like he's lost his effectiveness. You can't trade out an entire team, and it's time for a shake up. Thanks, Mike...we had a good run, and we all appreciate. I wish you luck with whoever takes you on, but I think we've stretched this thing out long enough. 1 MrazekFanBoy reacted to this

haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted April 30, 2015 My votes would be Tippett (if available), Blash, McClellen, Granato. Granato seems to have done good things here in Detroit, but I don't know about him as a head coach. He's had a couple shots at the job but keeps up ending back as an assistant. It's hard to say for sure but there's likely a reason for that. Some guys function better in that role of being on the side closer to the players versus overseeing the whole team and having to be the bad guy at times. 1 MrazekFanBoy reacted to this

Alextricity 5 Report post Posted April 30, 2015 "Why would Babcock leave?"Gee, I don't know. Because Toronto's a hockey mecca and he'd be number one there, no matter what? He'd get total control of the team? It's Canada? People here saying "BABCOCK" are behind a liiittle bit subjective.

kickazz 5,459 Report post Posted April 30, 2015 (edited) All the job offers for Babcock are pretty bad right now. All except Toronto. And that's only because they could offer him GM/Coaching job so he would have more power. Other than that his best option is to stay in Detroit. None of the other teams that have vacancies are at Detroit's level. Detroit has a subpar roster with a lot of experience (at this point) that successfully makes the playoffs each year. Most of the job vacancies for Babs are bottom teams that can't even get a crack at the playoffs. Buffalo, Edmonton, Toronto. If I were Babs, I'd stick with Detroit for the time being and get paid a lot of money to do so. He could sign a short contract for 3 or so seasons and get paid big money for it. This is a team he's groomed up and with Mrazek and younger players getting all the experience they have at the moment, I think he's still got a better shot of being successful here rather than anywhere else. All other places need a big revamp, will he be patient enough for it? Honestly I'd stick it out with Detroit and wait till better options are available for him. Then again Toronto IS the trump card because it DOES have the GM/Coach option. But with their history of firing coaches and GM and fanbase that's very very critical, you would wonder if that's an environment Babs even wants to be a part of. The guy hates media pressure. Guess we'll find out shortly. Edited April 30, 2015 by kickazz
RedWingsRox 614 Report post Posted April 30, 2015 Seriously, based on results, why the love for Tippet? What makes people think he could do better with our roster?

Some guys function better in that role of being on the side closer to the players versus overseeing the whole team and having to be the bad guy at times. He's been a head coach for 3 seasons, went to the playoffs twice, and won a round. I don't know, because I obviously wasn't watching Colorado in 2003-2004, but that doesn't seem terrible. Maybe there is something there, but his record doesn't suggest a wash out to me. But like I said, I don't know. Seriously, based on results, why the love for Tippet? What makes people think he could do better with our roster? Because he's won a ton of games under arguably the worst possible conditions. And because he's done so with a roster that's about 1/5 as good as our current one. Fun fact. You know how many 80 point players Dave Tippett has coached in his entire career? Two. Mike Ribeiro and Mike Modano. You know how many 80 point players Mike Babcock coached on the 2005 Red Wings alone? Four. Think about that. The best players he's ever coached..ever...were Modano, Ribiero, and Yandle. His best goalie was Bryzgalov. BRYZGALOV! 1 MrazekFanBoy reacted to this

rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted April 30, 2015 (edited) Per MacKenzie According to TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie, Detroit Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock is expected to meet with general manager Ken Holland on Friday. Saying there is no timeline on his future, Babcock will talk with his family today but understands the amount of attention surrounding his current contract status. Should the Red Wings' AHL affiliate extend their playoff series with the Toronto Marlies on Saturday, he plans on attending Game 5 on Sunday in Grand Rapids. Babcock's contract expires on June 30 at which point he could sign with any NHL team. http://www.tsn.ca/red-wings-babcock-to-meet-with-gm-holland-friday-1.271072 The bold part interests me, at least serving as an indication the he hasn't made up his mind yet. Unless he's going to scout the Marlies Edited April 30, 2015 by rick zombo
