rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted March 12, 2015 I would put them as 1a and 1b right now as far as our forward prospects go. I've been extremely high on Athanasiou for a couple years now, and there's no question that he has had the much better start to his pro career. Mantha, I think will be a great player as well, he's just taking longer to adapt to the pro game. I think they will be 1 and 2 in scoring for the Griffins next season and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they are both top 5 in the league. More like 1b and 1c

rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted March 12, 2015 Until he is in grand rapids and doesn't immediately light it up and everyone decides he's not good anymore Well I was being a little facetious. As far as AM vs AA goes, it's too close to call atm. Which, I guess, says alot about AA's development. I will say this. Unless Mantha decides to use his size and become a more aggresive player, he'll be boom or bust based soley on offensive production. If Athanasiou can't score consistently at the NHL level, his speed and jam will make him a great grinding forward. Sweet jesus I thought that was Crosby's face for a second. You wish!!!!!! TomTestedTough 8 Report post Posted March 16, 2015 I've been watching Mantha all season. My fear is he ends up another Franson. Right now, he is not aggresive along the boards and looses most of those battles. He also is slow getting back on defense. What he does have is a great set of hands and some speed. It's just that the drive seems to be lacking. 1 Bannedforlife reacted to this

jimmyemeryhunter 2,747 Report post Posted March 29, 2015 Yet we have Anderson around.Andy really hasn't been that bad. He's the resident whipping boy (aside from Howard, and big rig) since cleary never plays... But he's been surprisingly steady lately. Don't get me wrong, its fun to rip on him, because he's possibly our slowest skater, and doesn't really have any skill... But he's been good lately. The least of our problems at least.

The least of our problems at least. Should he be playing over Jurco or Weiss? Not a chance. He has 6 points in 60 games and is a -5. Sure +/- doesn't account for everything, but a lot of goals were because he missed his coverage or he just stopped skating. Ferraro could provide way more in his position. He only played over Weiss for those two or three games after Weiss had that horrendous game in Boston. So yes, for that time I was fine with Weiss sitting. And he hasn't been playing over Jurco very often, plus with the injury to sheahan we needed a center, he's been fine. He's not going to set the world on fire, and no one should have high hopes of him becoming a good third line center, but for the time being, he's fine there. Would I rather him be sitting. Yes. But to constantly rag on him makes it seem likes he's more to blame for the bad stretch than he really is.

But to constantly rag on him makes it seem likes he's more to blame for the bad stretch than he really is. Weiss had a bad game and deserves to sit over Anderson? Nyquist had a bunch of turnovers the previous two games (dismissing yesterday), maybe Anderson should play for him. Anderson has had plenty of really bad games yet plays 60 games. He provides nothing to the team. Anderson has also played over Jurco more than 3 times this year. No one said Anderson is to blame for the bad stretch, he shouldn't be on the team at all is what I'm saying. Weiss should have stepped into Sheahan shoes before Anderson did. jimmyemeryhunter 2,747 Report post Posted March 29, 2015 I'd be fine with sitting Nyquist if he starts playing like trash again. Gotta get the message across. And he's a fourth line center/wing who can kill penalties, is a big body, and can win board battles. Weiss shouldn't be on the fourth line, but he can't seem to win a single board battle, or loose puck.
DatsyukianDekes 2,428 Report post Posted March 29, 2015 Weiss can't win a board battle yet he's put in a position that only allows him to try and win board battles. He is way too skilled to be on the 4th line. Anderson is not a PK specialist, he's just there because he's a 4th liner and not a top line guy. He doesn't block shots, he doesn't pressure anyone he just stands there waving his stick most of the time. No matter what way you slice it, Anderson blows and shouldn't be on this team because he contributes absolutely nothing. 1 krsmith17 reacted to this

Andersson doesn't bring anything to the table, but he also doesn't take anything off it. Agreed about Weiss on the board battles. He needs to play center, especially on a line that will allow him to possess the puck. It doesn't surprise me that he turns it over all the time with the role he's in. 1 DatsyukianDekes reacted to this

Odd how it seems late picks in draft work out for us and the the first rounders it can be hit and miss; no rhyme or reason to anything really Seems odd, but really it's not. I forget the stats now, but the drop-off after the top handful of picks is fairly dramatic. Even mid-1st rounders are far from a sure thing. We haven't had a ton of 1sts, but I'm pretty sure we're a bit better than average for the range we pick. We're just a lot better than most when it comes to the 2nd and 3rd rounds. 1 krsmith17 reacted to this
