HockeytownRules19 902 Report post Posted May 30, 2013 Cleary suffered a second-degree separated left shoulder and a fractured left finger after he was slammed into the boards by Anaheim's Daniel Winnik in Game 5. Major Props to the Newfoundlander! Dude give it his all and more! Sadly... "As it turns out, defenseman Danny DeKeyser could have been back next week." http://www.freep.com/article/20130530/SPORTS05/305300119/ 9 Nev, Rick D, Bar Down and 6 others reacted to this
StormJH1 231 Report post Posted May 30, 2013 Wow. First I heard of that. Cleary was a great Red Wing, and yet another example of a post-hype player that the Wings adopted and got more out of than you'd expect. I'll also never forget that without Danny Cleary, we probably don't make it back to the Cup Finals, while Datsyuk, Hossa, and Lidstrom were playing through significant injuries and rendered much less effective. Has Cleary played his last game in the Winged Wheel? 1 Vladifan reacted to this
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted May 30, 2013 Impressive numbers for dealing with injuries. Way to be Dano! Pretty surprised Pavel wasn't injured, he just didn't look himself most of the series against Chicago. The Kronwall injury is no surprise either, played pretty well considering. 1 Vladifan reacted to this
Vladifan 680 Report post Posted May 30, 2013 Go fricking figure. Will this shut the Cleary cretins up? Will this get them off his back? Nawww....Hell, he shoulda been scoring goals even with a broken back. And don't tell me that was only for the last two games. Did any of you see him let up? To all of you Cleary haters out there, move on and get.a.life. Pick on someone your own size because you'd never ever fit in his skates. 13 hillbillywingsfan, P. SDavis35 140 Report post Posted May 30, 2013 "Holland also said today that Jimmy Howard played with a pulled hamstring at the end of the Anaheim series." Another warrior for us. I know it's not as serious as some of the other injuries, but to play as well as jimmy did says a lot. 6 Vladifan, puckloo39, MidMichSteve and 3 others reacted to this

Nyquistfan14 489 Report post Posted May 30, 2013 Before the playoffs I definitely wanted cleary gone, but I thought he played real well. I want him back, but he can't be playing in a top 6 role, maybe not even a top 9 role. Get him crashing and banging and chipping in on the 4th line and don't have him on the pp 1 Vladifan reacted to this
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted May 30, 2013 We need the veterans and the tough guys to hang in there. Cleary proved he's both, and then some. Howard was just other-worldly for us. As a goalie geek, I have to say, I have not seen better for quite a few years. Jimmeh!! 3 Rick D, Vladifan and MidMichSteve reacted to this
Richdg 267 Report post Posted May 30, 2013 Over the next few days we will find out about all the injuries. But guess what? EVERYONE HAS GUYS PLAYING HURT! It is the freaking playoffs. very few if any teams are going to go through the playoffs without having half their team banged up. Happens every year. As for Cleary, no one has ever doubted his heart or his guts. he has tons of both. But he is also half the player he used to be. It happens. he is 33/34 now and a UFA. No I do not want him back. We have young guys in the minors that need to play. yes they could flop. But untill they play every day, we don't know. What can Cleary give us that Sheahan can't? Nothing. Yes Sheahan is young and inexperienced, but how does he get experience? oh ya-he plays! 4 DBR, esteef, pucktividi and 1 other reacted to this

Cleary was terrible all year, and needs to no longer be on the rosterprops to him for playing through so much pain though. pucktividi 472 Report post Posted May 30, 2013 I really hope that choking comments will stop now.Cleary,Jimmy,Kronner have played injured with Helm,Danny D sidelined. GoalieManPat 1,007 Report post Posted May 30, 2013 Ive never questioned Dan Cleary's heart or toughness. I do question his declining hockey skills though. You can have all the heart in the world but if your hockey skills arent up to NHL levels then you dont belong in there. He shouldnt be re-signed. If he is then it should be as an extra forward or 4th line at best. The problem with signing him as a 4th liner is Babcock wont be able to resist moving him to top 6 and he just simply doesnt belong up there anymore.

Which s the point. We can't eep bringing the sme old tired, beat up, worn out guys back and expect to improve. It doesn't work that way.

We can't eep bringing the sme old tired, beat up, worn out guys back and expect to improve. It doesn't work that way. While its true the Wings did play above there talent level. Dropping a series you lead 3-1 including a game you held the lead in going into the 3rd at home is a choke job. Your expectations of what a team should do is fluid through a series. You can be a favorite but if you go down 3-0 you expect to lose. Same the other way a around. If your an underdog and you go up 3-1 you expect to advance. Anything else is a choke job. 1 LidsFan reacted to this

GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted May 30, 2013 Love Cleary. His physical abilities have deteriotated quickly because of injuries, but he has a ton of heart and guts. Been a great story turning his career and life around in Detroit. I don't know whether Cleary has played his last game for the Red Wings, but I appreciate his dedication and contributions to the franchise. 4 Datsyukian_Deke_13, Vladifan, wingslogo19 and 1 other reacted to this

If Cleary's gone, we're losing a lot more than you seem to think. While I agree with you, it has to happen. Lidstrom loss hurt, but opened up the door for the saplings to grow. You gotta clear out the old sometimes. I would be looking to unload Cleary, Flip, Bert, Sammy, White, and Colo if I was Holland. Cleary, Flip, and White take care of themselves as UFAs. Buyouts take care Bert and Sammy. Colo can be traded easily. 4th rounder in return. 1 Z Winged Dangler reacted to this
