MrBest7 7 Report post Posted July 7, 2012 Evander Kane is a Better Option than Zach Parise I can’t lie; missing out on Ryan Suter was a huge blow to our defense and a run for the cup this coming year. However… While left wing Zach Parise is a great talent, he is not worth the price Minnesota paid for him. At the prime age of 27 years, Zach Parise scored 31 goals. Kenny Holland was actually pushing the limit offering Parise $90 million over 13 years ($6.92Mp/r). Left wing Evander Kane on the other hand is 6 years younger, stronger, tougher, and bigger! Not even in his prime yet at 20 years, scored over 30 goals last season. Currently he’s a restricted free agent in Winnipeg. I’d offer Evender Kane a long-term 13 year deal worth $80 million. That’s just over $6 million per year. It will cost the Wings a first, second, and a third rounder. However, in the long-term Evander Kane will become a better value than Zach Parise. Next year we need to gear up to buy Shea Weber. Guest Crymson Report post Posted July 7, 2012 (edited) There are two major flaws (well, there are far more than two, but I'll just list two anyway) with your idea: 1) It would make far more sense to simply trade for his rights, given that Kane has indicated an unwillingness to re-sign with the Jets. 2) Giving Kane 13 years at $6m per would be beyond ludicrous. Doing so AND giving up three draft picks in the process would carry the idea into the realm of complete brainlessness. Both Kane and Win management have clarified that they are working on a deal, and that Kane did not request a trade. How many GMs have used offersheets maybe 5 and despite one all got matched. Also Kane seems not like a good locker room guy so pass on that one. I had the Jets channel and watched over 60 Jets games alone last season, and Wheeler is the best, most consistent, most dynamic player on the Jets. Followed by Kane. Scott Krist 1 Report post Posted July 7, 2012 There is no valid evidence anywhere to suggest that Kane's rights are going to be traded, as far as an offer sheet goes, I doubt it. Actually I am from Atlanta and I know a woman who Kane had a "fling" with, and she insists that he does not like it in Winnipeg, but of course that's just what she says. Missing out on some big names and signing someone else for big money just because you feel you need to do something never works. Maybe Kane will end up being amazing he is real good but it doesent feel right to me. The Red Wings should still make the playoffs imo. He's so young he could learn so much from Z and D (among others) about the role of tradition, along with helping retain one! Id love him to be one of two big offensive deals this offseason. We've seen that teams are pretty willing to let players sit out if they won't sign and a trade can't be arranged - see Kyle Turris, and almost Drew Doughty. While I don't agree with actually paying a 20-year-old $5+ million, the fact remains that a first and a third could be a decent price for what is essentially a sign-and-trade. A month ago, people were making capgeek rosters with Parise and Suter both making $7.5 or above and now they are getting $7.54 AAV and it's overpayment?
