Vancouver put Erik Brannstrom on waivers yesterday. Do you think Wings would take as shot at claiming him? Would he be worth having in the organization?

Nope. He's underwhelmed as part of three different organizations already. He's the defenseman version of Zadina. I want guys who excel when given a chance, not guys who disappoint over and over despite all their opportunities. No more Zadinas, Puljujarvis, or Brannstroms. I want winners.

Edit: I'd add that there's nothing more useless in hockey then a "scorer" who doesn't score. At least Albert Johansson plays defense reasonably well when he's not scoring. What's the upshot with Brannstrom? He's a bad defender, doesn't play hard, is undersized, AND he doesn't score.

No. We dont need more small wingers OR dmen. Unless he has Kaprizov/Raymond or Q Hughes/ASP ability Im not interested in any of these small players. jmo

I agree. I think we're built a little bit like the Kings, and I'm excited to see what McClellan can do with a roster that's not past its prime like LA was by the time he got there. I watched them against Edmonton last night and you can't help but notice how hard it is for teams to play against guys like Kopitar, Byfield, Kempe. I see a little of Kopitar in Larkin, little bit of Doughty in Seider too. Todd was good in LA, but I think his best players were all just a little bit past it. He's getting a team entering it's prime right now. First time in his head coaching career he's going to have that.

No Wings on the list.   Is this because SY didn't make any moves at last years TDL?   Or is it because we don't have any tradable assets?

Likely both...  we seem to want to make a "hockey trade" instead of buying more washed vets at the deadline.

Wow.   Carolina keeps making We Want The Cup moves every year it seems.    Chicago seemed like losers in the deal, only getting a 3rd for retaining half of Rantenen's salary and moving Hall.

more the former. We do have tradeable assets. Kane being the biggest one.

Nope. Got some prospects I would give that ice time to over Brannstrom.

You're right although Kane has a NTC which means nothing really I guess.   I was talking more about assets that we didn't have to attach picks to get rid of them.   I mean if someone wanted to take Tank or one of our regards I'm all for it.

#BringBackHronek

I'll have to be honest and claim ignorance on why he was sent packing...

Mantha - work ethic, injury prone, inconsistent

Bertuzzi - malcontent, refused vaccination, wouldn't settle on what Yzerman was offering

Hronek - other than being a lil'butthurt when Seider came onboard and  was then relegated to #2 D overall - I got nuthin?

Hronek was solid for us.

A lot of deals going down recently, I wonder if Yzerman joins the fray, or stands pat again? that could be a bad decision to stand pat.

We here and all of the NHL know what resources we are lacking. Getting those resources probably going to be costly especially with what seems that almost all 32 teams are in the fray for min WC spots. Unless there is some sort of huge separation after 4 nations and before trade deadline.

We upgraded by deletion with Petry going on IR with the surgery(hope he heals and retires). AJo becomes even more a fixture in the lineup and is doing well. Bring up a kid from GR to start rotating in on the 3rd pair see what we got in say either Wallinder or Buium?

I personally don't see StevieY making a big monster splash unless it makes sense for now and for the next 3 years. I have been wrong before ....checks notes from first marriage yup that counts as being wrong

I agree, but he did nothing to add last year and after the deadline was over, Larkin got hurt. If they were to acquire a 27 year old pending UFA or two, Lindgren, Boeser as examples, they'd be important to the team for 3 or more years. But I'm fine with going forward and maybe signing 2 in July. We need an upgrade to LHD and a replacement for Kane over the summer.

No disagreement on the thought but it's the what do you have to give up for those assets? I am willing to ride out no changes unless it's too good of a deal to pass up and wait till FA.

I think we are in a better situation now then last year with young guns stepping up their play. Plus I don't see Todd sitting back and being passive if this team stumbles like last year.

Oh s***E we play Dallas April 14 ....might have to rethink my position with Benn being Larkin's kryptonite if we are in playoff spot.

Still too early for giving up part of the future for a UFA.   Making the playoffs is not a certainty as I think a huge reason for our run besides Todd, is our goaltending.   Both goalies have been hot and are due for a small regression.

For a no brainer trade like the proposed deal made up  by Tristin McKinstry, Bowen Byram for a conditional 2nd, Gustafsson and  Wallinder.

Laughable sort of with the 2nd 2025 becoming a 1st if Detroit wins a playoff round this season.

this one is floating out there https://clutchpoints.com/perfect-trade-red-wings-must-offer-sabres-bowen-byram

interesting take trade for Power vs Byram https://thehockeywriters.com/sabres-byram-should-not-trade-away/#google_vignette

Do the same deal for Power?

I'd be ok with the Byram deal, but not the condition of one playoff round. Make it to the Eastern Conference Finals (win TWO playoff rounds), yes, then I'll do the condition.

I'd still look to shore up the top 6 forwards too, in case of injury. Boeser fits that mold. If nobody gets injured, then we have a helluva top 9. I'd send them the same draft pick condition, obviously a 2026 one though, along with Veleno and a prospect, like one of the Nilsson bros. preferably the older one. There'd have to be a 3 year extension in place for Boeser though. Also Buffalo and Vancouver will retain some salary on the expiring contracts.
