Octopus's Garden 147 Report post Posted June 23, 2010 Yep and the horrid off-season that it was supposed to be for s***cago has started off not so badly... I mean ... yea, they got a nice haul back, but you can't quantify Byfuglien's impact on that team based on stats and money. Would they have even made the Finals without his playoff production? He's a huge, huge piece to that puzzle.

vladdy16 2,154 Report post Posted June 23, 2010 To give credit where credit is due, Eklund had this trade before anybody else. Even a blind squirrel...... This was an awesome deal for Chicago, but by my calculations - oh, okay, by my looking over others calculations - Chicago still has a pretty serious cap problem. Is waiving Huet the best course of action?
StaticWithABeat 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2010 Not sure what Atlanta is thinking taking this deal. Props to Bowman for pulling it off though, definitely a victory for him considering the circumstances.

mjlegend 155 Report post Posted June 23, 2010 I don't hate this trade for Atlanta's perspective. They clearly need to change the culture in that dressing room, so why not shuffle in some Cup champs. Still hasn't gotten rid of their three worst contracts (Huet, Campbell, Sharp). They'll need to dump at least two of these guys to have any depth at all. Blackhawks send Akim Aliu to Atlanta as well - Bob McKenzies Twitter (channeling Downgoesbrown) "Sir! You forgot your change, sir!" 1 Lidstrom for life reacted to this

Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted June 23, 2010 so chicago now has the 8th overall pick.... nice edit: Chicago to send Byfuglien, Sopel, Eager and Akim Aliu to Atl for 24th overall pick, 54th overall pick, Marty Reasoner and Jeremy Morin. bab mackenzie Huh? It was clearly stated that they recieved the 24th overall pick (Atlanta had New Jersey's 1st and 2nd round picks as part of the Kovy trade).

They're actually about 4.485 mil under the cap with 9 players to sign. Still some work to do. I will say that their forward core is still looking mighty studly though. Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted June 23, 2010 I'm a little angry that Chicago seems to get away with their "situation" pretty comfortably A 24th overall pick is an underpayment for Buff based on how important he was to their Cup win. We can consider the 2nd round pick the payment for Eager (which is a fair trade). I'm still surprised Chicago gave up Buff... he wasn't a small piece of their win. This is the equivalent of the Wings trading Holmstrom before he hit his prime.
