What do you consider Kronwall's goal tonight?

I know that shootout goals don't count as official goals, but since it was 0-0 going into the SO, do you consider 55's goal a GWG? Or something else? Any rules experts, please feel free to chime in as I have been curious about this since the end of the game.

Thanks!

In all actuality, that SO went way longer than it should have. Pretty sure everyone and their mothers were able to see Rinne and his giant 5-hole he had the entire SO....well everyone but the players, minus Kronwall.

yeah, for *all* individual stats, the game was a 0-0 tie, in which both goalies earned a shutout and no players had points or anything other than even +/- ratings.

shootout goals are "team goals," in which one team or the other gets a goal added to their point total, but it is not credited to any player nor counted against any goalie, specifically.

i also have a question, though. what i think is that SO (team) goals are counted in any given teams goals for average (GFA) and goals against average (GAA). is that correct? if you like a red wings stats, is our GAA inclusive of all the "team goals" scored against us in shootouts? that's one thing i'm not sure of.

So both goalies can only get a shutout if goes to shootout? i remember a boring game against columbus this season that went 0-0 after 60mins and fredrik modin scored in the OT to make it 1-0 (OT) and only Garon got the shutout not howard...

Correct, both goalies get shutouts if it goes to a shootout because no goals were allowed in regulation or OT. So since the game against Columbus DIDN'T go to a shootout because Modin scored in OT that would be why Howard didn't get a shutout...

I heard Ken Daniels say that Kronwall got the Game Deciding Goal. Tho I think it needs to be investigated as to how a team can win a game when the goalie against you got a Shut Out. Does not really make much sense to me.

Kronwall's goal is credited as a Game Deciding Goal...not a Game Winning Goal. There is a difference between the two. Game Deciding Goals pertain to shootouts ONLY. And teams can win games even with the opposing goalie getting a shutout simply because it went to a shootout with no goals being allowed in regulation or OT. Shutouts pertain to regulation and OT only.

Actually I think it counts in the GWG stat, but not in actual goals

I'm surprised the League hasn't fixed this "black hole" of statistics. But, they are still smarting from the embarassment of the "Regulation Tie" fiasco of 1999-00.

Fix it?

Hell they think it's ok to have one team play a 2pt game while the 2 they are chasing for a playoff spot divvy up 3.

I don't think so, in that case, you could have a guy with 0 goals, but 1 gwg, doesn't work. It counts towards the team's GF, that's it.

I think you're correct. According to my fantasy sites (sorry, guys), Kronner has 0 GWG this week.

This is just going off of what I've heard in the past, so I'm not 100%.

But I believe if you look at the stats on NHL.com, for example, our GAA, GFA and Goal Differential will include shootout goals for/against because they just simply use the final game score to tabulate these numbers. But I think for certain things like the Jennings Trophy (Best Team GA) and maybe even the Goal Differential tiebreaker? and official things like that they do not count SO goals.

The reason I say this is I vaguely recall something from '08 with our GAA. On NHL.com our GAA was lower than New Jersey's (I think?) but they infact had a better TRUE GAA then we did at a certain point in the season. We eventually passed them and won the Jennings trophy, but I do believe that was the case.
