Is that Doc guy going to ruin the Olympics by covering all of the hockey games? I'm watching the women - Canada vs. Switzerland. He just explained in his whiny voice what a Shot on Goal is...a shot that would have been a goal if the goalie hadn't stopped it.

Just kill me now!

You have to account for a lot of people watching hockey just because it's the Olympics, so I can understand why he's saying these things.

Imagine trying to follow cricket on tv when you have no idea what the rules were.

However, his whiny "...and a DRIIIIVE" will certainly get on my nerves before it's all over. I miss Gary Thorne.

I watched one of the later games last night (can't remember who was playing) and someone else was calling the game. I think every 'important' game he'll call. He's called both of Canada's woman's games and the US woman. He's actually a little toned down compared to NHL games that he calls. Almost as if he's a little bored calling woman's games.

People compalined about Thorne too. I remember here specifically, people complaining that him and Clement were Avs homers after almost every single game with them. People just don't appreciate the announcers until they're gone, I guess.

Yeah, a lot of people didn't like Thorne because he was always so excited. But I'll take a little over-excited announcer, over a boring monotone one anyday. He was the voice of a lot of great memories in my childhood, so I've always had a soft spot for him.

Pretty sure he's doing play by play for the Baltimore Orioles now. And I think Clement got a job being Peter Forsberg's jockstrap.

NBC is just as embarrassing when broadcasting NHL hockey, so I don't see why anything would change. Emerick may have an encyclopedic knowledge of hockey and have a bunch of silly catch phrases etc, but the level to which they dumb down the game is absolutely unbearable. You can't watch the "NHL on NBC Game of the Week" without having them explain the most fundamental of concepts repeatedly - and they do it EVERY WEEK. Whether accounting for casual fans or not, they should not be explaining the basic rules of the game with every broadcast. This is the only sport where you ever hear nationally syndicated broadcasters pander to the casual audience as if they were retarded.

The example I always use is NBC's coverage of Football. NBC's coverage of the NFL is absolutely pristine. Their PxP guys call the action on the field as it pertains to the game situation without dumbing it down and their color men provide in-depth and accurate analysis. Could you imagine Doc and Pierre calling a football game?

Doc: Annnnnnd the Raiders come just shy of getting a 1st down so now they'll have to punt the ball away to the Chargers.

Pierre: The reason they have to do that is because they're down to their last possession, which means that if they fail to gain a 1st down on this try, they will be giving up superior field position to the other team. The punt is a safe way to guarantee good defensive field position when the Chargers begin their offense!

NBC doesn't treat NHL hockey like a real sport, they act like it's some cute spectacle that last 3 months of the year and has a neat trophy. Their Olympic coverage isn't going to be any different.

This wasn't during a hockey game but one of the NBC announcers said 90% of Canada's population lives between their border and ours...I am still trying to figure out what the hell she meant by that. And at Edicius yes, I believe he referred to one of the players as "The Sidney Crosby of women's hockey"

So that's how they control illegal immigration in Canada... wall of living Canadians along the borderline..

Anybody else catch Cammi Granato and Whoever rhapsodizing over the fact that the arena seem to come alive because the Canadian men were on the ice warming up? That was just a little bit of a stretch because the arena was empty.

:shocking:
