Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted September 28, 2009 Article It was just five years ago that Mathieu Dandenault was a Red Wing. The San Jose Sharks have released the 33-year-old who was in camp with them on a professional tryout. Will the swingman (D/F) find a way back in the league? I don't want the Wings to go back there, but would we offer him a deal with the Griffins? He might not want to accept the fact that he can't get a shot with an NHL team right now but it's got to be one step at a time. He's a good guy and I'd like to see him back in the organisation playing for the Griffins. They could do with another defenceman and more flexibility, so Kenny, make it happen. Carman 387 Report post Posted September 28, 2009 Don't really see a need for him at all. Wish the ex-wing the best of luck though.

GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted September 28, 2009 He's better than meech Enrico Ciccone would be an improvement over Meech. I wouldn't mind Dandenault here over either Lebda or Meech.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted September 28, 2009 Lebda and Meech traded for a 3rd and a 4th. Sign Dandenault at league min, and when Liljas healthy he just replaces Meechs spot. Get er done Kenny!
Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted September 28, 2009 I loved Dandenault....I can't believe there is no NHL team in need of a guy like him. I guess he is getting squeezed out by the cap - but yeah if he singed for under a million, i'd take him over Meech or Lebda anyday.
Holmstrom96 347 Report post Posted September 28, 2009 Dandenault used to be my favorite player. I've got a signed Dandy jersey and I even had the pleasure of meeting Mathieu at the Troy ice rink. However, I just don't think we need him right now. I was always impressed with his speed, but he never seemed to develop beyond that raw speed.
Lamothe 5 Report post Posted September 28, 2009 Well, he's better than Lebda. He's Lebda Senior. However, I was going to write exactly what you wrote, word for word, until I noticed you already wrote it... Which obviously then made my comment redundent. Jake Ryan 1 Report post Posted September 28, 2009 Dandenault, Devereaux, and Lapointe back in. Helm, Abdelkader, and Filppula out. Let's get more old guys that suck to compliment the ones we already have (Holmstrom, Maltby, and Draper).

He would be lucky to get anything more than 500,00 from a team. For the 17 g's more it would cost us to bring him in and dump Meech, I would be more than happy to do that. The two most pointless players on this team are meech and maltby. I say why not upgrade both.

The Wings still need an upgrade on Meech. There are guys like Mclaren, De Vries, Bergeron, Malik, Gauthier and even Hedican that would bring more to the table along with a guy like Delmore who can be a power play specialist

Not Red Wings material. Bergeron is absolutely awful defensively, and Hedican retired. along with a guy like Delmore who can be a power play specialistThe Wings don't really need help on the power play, do they? Vladinator 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2009 He was awful when he was here. He was awful when he left. Why bring him back, even if it is for Grand Rapids? I really see no benefit in this at all.

I really see no benefit in this at all. To say that he was awful 100% of the time when he was here is a big bit of a stretch and untrue. I remember in 2002 him and Duchesne did quite well playing that 3rd line defensive role. Who was the guy that caused distraction to Irbe to help in Larionov's 3 OT goal in game 3 of the SCF? Dandenault. Of course all of that is forgetton somehow.
