Jon22 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2009 Even though we've outscored Pittsburgh 15-10 so far in this series, I dare you try to find a picture on NHL.com's "Stanley Cup Finals Featured Galleries" of the Wings celebrating after a goal. In fact, you won't even find a shot of the Wings in which it appears that a Red Wing is scoring. Yet in the same galleries, in all but Game 5 (for obvious the obvious reason that Pittsburgh was shut out), you will find a picture of Penguins in celebration of a goal, or in the act of scoring a goal. Reading the captions may even be more discouraging than the pictures. More often than not the captions somehow show Pittsburgh being dominant, or the Wings struggling to be involved in the play. Now go to the Game 4 (Det 2, Pitt 4) gallery, and what will you find? 3 pictures of either Pittsburgh in the act of scoring (the puck crossing the line) or in a celebration. There's 1 picture of Helm shooting the puck from God-Knows-Where. You wouldn't know it was a goal unless the caption beneath told you so. Game 3 (Det 2, Pitt 4) shows Pittsburgh celebrating after a goal. Detroit is not to be seen scoring or celebrating at all. Game 2 (Det 3, Pitt 1) shows Pittsburgh celebrating after their only goal. Detroit is not seen scoring or celebrating. Goalie save highlights are 3 for Fleury, 1 for Osgood. Game 1 (Det 3, Pitt 1) shows Pittsburgh in the act of scoring their only goal. Detroit is not seen scoring or celebrating. 2 or 3 games worth of pictures, I'd call it coincidence. After 5 games I think it's clear to see who NHL.com's favorites are. Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted June 8, 2009 And next season we'll probably see a bunch on commercials on versus of the Penguins dramatic victory in game 4, with nothing of the wings winning the cup.

Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted June 8, 2009 That is indeed strange. Not really, we don't celebrate scoring goals I noticed this during this series, the Pens celebrate with a giant group huge and pony ride after each and every goal, while we do not. Guest Shoreline Report post Posted June 8, 2009 (edited) It is pretty suspect as to why they don't show a single goal. I posted a whole slew of images from NHL Yahoo / Getty images in the Game 5 x Posts for a Wings win topic and there were so many pictures of both teams celebrating or in the midst of scoring goals it's insane. This one doesn't have that many pictures but it is suspicious why they don't show a single Wing goal. It does look like they favor the Penguins in their shots, but no doubt in the end if the Wings win they will still get shots of our own players holding the cup and in the handshake line. I wouldn't think much of it beyond f*** NHL.com when it comes to pictures. There's much better out there anyways. Edited June 8, 2009 by Shoreline

I've seen plenty of group hugs from the Wings. I have a pretty good collection of the photos should you be interested, as does the freep and detnews. The pony ride I would like to see, although I'm sure it pales in comparison to the octopus throw
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted June 8, 2009 Every team in the history of the NHL has a group hug thing after they score a goal. But the wings don't really do anything outrageous outside of Hossa. Even he is pretty subdued though.

SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted June 8, 2009 Shouldn't be shocking. When the league has a large marketing focus on one/two players on the same team, and portrays that that team won the Stanley Cup when they didn't, there is going to be more bias towards them. Has less to do with being against the Red Wings and more to do with drinking Penguins kool-aid.

I like looking through the pictures, and I don't like when it seems like I'm at pittsburghpenguins.com Okay, allow me to rephrase: does it matter? There will be plenty of pictures of Red Wings holding something silver above their heads, I'll take those pictures any day.

Our boys just head butt each other and move on. But whenever Crosby or Malkin score they go crazy, which makes for much better photos.
Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted June 8, 2009 If it's not a conspiracy on the part of the refs, it's a conspiracy on the part of the commish. If it's not a conspiracy on the part of the commish, it's a bias against our team by the league's website. There's just always some inexplicable force holding us down, isn't there? WHY CAN'T DETROIT BE GREAT?!?! My word.

(see Mac's 97 GWG) Still those little group hugs make nice pics. They could post them and it wouldn't hurt our feelings. That said, if one wants to see pics of Detroit players, I would suggest going to a Detroit site. At least there it's a given.

MidMichSteve 1,115 Report post Posted June 8, 2009 (edited) It would not be good for the league if the same team dominates every year. The whole idea about parity is that this will not happen. The rest of the leagues' fans would have little hope of ever seeing the cup hoisted by their team and ticket sales and interest would plummet This isn't the NBA and the Lakers. Who, besides us, wants to have everything about the Red Wings crammed down their throats? Although I do hate the NHL commercials showing the Pens seemingly winning the cup, having our team ignored is a badge of honor. Don't worry about it. The good thing is it brings us closer together here. Edited June 8, 2009 by MidMichSteve
