Randy Carlyle's view of the hit

It pisses me off 'cause he's dissing my team.. but as far as complaining about Homer, he's just trying to get the refs to get more calls on him. Even some of the Ducks fans will tell you that having Homer in front of Hiller is going to hurt him 'cause SJ didn't do that well of a job with screening the goalie. Carlyle is just playing the game. Not very well.. but he's playing it.

As for the hit, I haven't taken a close enough look to make any statements yet.

IS AN ABSOLUTE JOKE! He even said no penalty should have been given, and he said he hit him with his shoulder, then complained about how Hiller kept getting run by Homer, etc.

What a joke of coach he is!

That's all he can do. He can't say Homer did a good job because that would undermine his goaltender and defense.

And he isn't about to throw his own guy under the bus.

Having said that, complaining about Wings' play hasn't worked for coaches in the past and I don't expect it to work now.

Oh Carlyle. How did Huddles start pouring blood if Brown hit with his shoulder?

Oh Carlyle. You're allowed to touch the goalie after the puck has gone in. And Mule probably wouldn't have hit Hiller with such force if your guys had been pushing him... you know?

You sound like a bitter old man. Find some professionalism.

Carlyle is a joke of a human being and gives retards a bad name, yeah Brown got all shoulder, if so Brown must have the sharpest shoulders in the game.

Randy Carlyle also thinks Holmstrom gets away with not being called on goalie interference calls than most because of his reputation, that right there should tell you he's a clueless idiot with no concept of reality outside of his horribly biased interests.

Hudler really should of had his head up and not watching his pass.

If Hudler's head was down, you're right. He should've had his head up.

HOWEVER, having one's head down doesn't make shoulder-to-face hits or what have you okay. It's an infraction every time, no matter what the other player does to "deserve" it.

I don't care if Hudler was waving a stick around saying "HEY, HIT ME IN THE FACE. PLEEEEEEEEEEASE." You simply cannot do that and expect a pass.

I just saw that! What a ******, even if it was a clean hit he still could have said something like "It's too bad he was hurt like that." but he didn't 'cause he's an a$$ and knew it was dirty.

That "not even a second" quote was utterly ridiculous. The puck was long since gone. Without a whole lot of difficulty, the puck could cross the entire ice surface in less than a second. Having said that, the previous poster is also correct. Hudler needs to be more aware than that. I'm sure he will be now.

I guess I'd be surprised if there is any suspension. Pronger has gotten away with worse and he's got a rap sheet as long as your arm.

I don't get this angle. He looked to see where his pass was going a split second after releasing it, then turned his head to either go for a change or to look in the direction he was going to go. Even with his "head up," he wouldn't have been able to see Brown (who was coming from an angle behind and to his side) until Brown was on top of him - which he did see, anyway.

I haven't really seen a replay that shows whether he hit Hudler with his stick, elbow, or shoulder, though the Versus replays looked most like it was a stick.

On Carlyle's running goaltenders comments: This is just silly posturing that coaches always do. Osgood got run over at least as much as Hiller (see: last 48 seconds of 3rd period). On Franzen's goal, his momentum was carrying him towards the goalie and by the time he let his shot go, he had nowhere to go but into the goalie.

The same type of play occurred in Boston v Carolina on Carolina's only goal, Carolina's "run" was more spectacular.

I wouldn't be surprised. The league's been cracking down on hits to the head these playoffs. Brown won't get as much as Brashear, but I'd be surprised if he didn't get a couple games. FWIW, the guys on Vs. that it was suspension worthy as well.

Geez, someone's been taking pointers from Therrien. All those bogus NHL commercials must have him thinking that Therrien's team won the Cup last year.

Thats the exact same thing I was just thinking when I saw this!

keeping your head up is kinda short for being aware of your surroundings on the ice. Hudler was not, he got dinged as he watched his pass while continuing to skate forward toward Brown. i don't really expect a suspension for that.
