Jamaica Jon 1 Report post Posted February 18, 2009 (edited) In terms of the past 15 years or so, I think you've pretty much nailed it. Although I think I'd put Maggs' walk-off over Tayshaun's block. And the Brawl higher. (just noticed the "no particular order". I actually liked the order, so I thought they were in order. Whoops) Edited February 18, 2009 by Jamaica Jon
Dano33 41 Report post Posted February 18, 2009 Chauncey's shot didn't mean much, they lost the game i believe. For me that takes something away from it. Top 3 definately McCarty, Steve, and Maggs. I'm not a big basketball guy, but there's no denying Tay's block being up there. I might put Sanders 2000 yards on the list too. I'm too young to remember much memorable moments before Yzerman's shot (only 7 or 8 at the time).
pavyaz19 1 Report post Posted February 18, 2009 2 Things: 1.) Those two guys in the stands that stand up in front of the camera when Gretzky turns it over to Stevie and center ice... those two guys man, i wish one was me. They will forever be part of one of the planet's greatest sports moments. 2.) WHERE WAS MICKEY??? I wonder where he was during the '97 Colorado brawl. I'm guessing he was on his way to do the intermission interview... hopefully he got to see the fight in person. Does anyone know, without speculation, if that was the case? Glubki 17 Report post Posted February 18, 2009 (edited) Toss in Mike Utley's thumbs up and the report that Jiri Fisher was going to make it and I'm there with you. kook_10 1,705 Report post Posted February 18, 2009 How about Gibby's home run against Goose Gossage game 5 '84 World Series?
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted February 18, 2009 The walk-off homerun by Maggs to win the ALCS gives me chills every time I watch it. I guess for me that was the best moment recently in Detroit sports just because it was actually something good happening to the Tigers. The Red Wings win all of the time - we come to expect it as fans and probably take it for granted. Being able to experience the Maggs homerun as a fan was so special because the Tigers don't do things like that very often (or ever in my lifetime). By the way, great thread. It sure as hell is much better than all of the negative crap lately.
Salviaman 104 Report post Posted February 18, 2009 2003: Scott Stevens lays out Paul Kariya with an open ice check, knocking him out ice cold. You had to wait a good 7 seconds until you can see him regain his consciousness and breath/fog up his visor. 1980: The Miracle on Ice... USA vs. CCCP
softshoes 83 Report post Posted February 18, 2009 This list is my greatest Detroit sports moments/memories. 1. Jim Northrop's triple in game 7 of the 68 series against Bob Gibson. 2. U of M, Anthony Carter's catch on the final play to beat Indiana. I'll never forget Ufer's call. To this day I don't think Lee Corso has gotten over it 3. Stevie's 2OT goal against ST. Louis. 4. The Bad Boy's finally getting over the hump in 88/89. 5. The Wings ending the drought in 97 and on home ice.
