MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 The NHL's two conference-leading teams, Ottawa and Detroit, are a couple of teams needing more of a physical presence and one player they are believed to be coveting is Chicago Blackhawks veteran Martin Lapointe. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2008/02/24/deadline_rumours/
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 (edited) http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2008/02/24/deadline_rumours/ Ugh. That's a terrible rumor. The Wings are already going to bring back McCarty, so I don't see why Lapointe would also be brought back. Unless Holland's goal is to bring back the 97-98 Cup teams or something. Lapointe has been rumored here a lot, so I don't really believe it. And quite frankly, I don't want to believe it either, because Lapointe sucks. Donaldjr2448 43 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 I still believe that there is a silver lining to every cloud. The way the team has played the last 3 weeks or so we need a forward, maybe two and a possibly a defenseman. Calgary and Vancouver showed our weakness very well the last two nights. If the wings do not make a move I see us being out in 5 games in the first round. I still would like to get the following players: Hossa, Sundin, Fedorov, and Adam Foote. I would also Salei, I think he would fit, I think we could get Fedorov and Foote pretty cheap, but we need help on the PP ans Sundin is a PP expert. I really don't want another first round exit!!! There are going to be a lot of UFAs after this year, so I don't see why we can't let some of the young guys go!! I thought the whole Idea was to win!! Being #1 throught the regular season and then being a doormat inthe playoffs doesn't sit well with me!!

Cleary returning and adding Hossa would be key. Salei would really help us out on the back end...
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 Do we have a history of trying to acquire Salei in the past? When he was a free agent...two off-seasons ago I wanna say...there was talk that Detroit was interested in landing him, but at the time I think Florida offered him more than we were willing to. They offered him 3M per season, which Detroit wasnt going to match considering their #2 in Schneider was making 3.3M himself..
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 Didnt we also inquire about Salei in 05/06 at the deadline?
Rice 42 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 Didnt we also inquire about Salei in 05/06 at the deadline? It was rumored for a while. I wanted the Wings to get one of Salei, Carney, or Witt. I'd still welcome any one of them.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2008/02/24/deadline_rumours/ I dont buy that. Unless the Wings get Lapointe for something like future considerations, I cant see the Wings going after him. Hes no different from Drake, Downey, or even Mac at this point in his career. IMO, if we add a 3rd/4th line guy, itll be someone like Gratton or similar. Someone that can still provide the physical, energetic, intangibles, but might be able to contribute the odd goal as well.. Donaldjr2448 43 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 I just read the rumor mill on the tsn website, and it said that Columbus was willing to trade Pascal Leclaire for Brad Richards. Why in the F!@# would they do that??? Leclaire is the entire reason they are 5 points out of a playoff spot!! WOW!!
Wings_Dynasty 267 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 McCarty still has some work to do, but I dont know if they bring back Marty, who's place would he take? Guess that depends on what happens with other deals. He would take Downey's place, since Drake already has taken Downey's place before. 4th line Lapointe-Kopy-Drake Not horrible, but Downey is a really well liked guy and has proved he knows what his role is. I would be hesitant to give his spot to anyone that isn't a legitimate heavyweight enforcer.
Dabura 12,228 Report post Posted February 24, 2008 I'm going to take a break until d-day. In my time away, I shall dream about this: Cleary - Datsyuk - Hossa Fedorov - Zetterberg - Holmstrom Maltby - Draper - Franzen Kopecky - Hudler - Downey Lidstrom - Salei Rafalski - Kronwall Lilja - Chelios Not happening, obviously. But it'll get me through the next day and half! :carrot: :beerbuddy:

But was I so crazy that I made perfect sense? I'd be happy with just Hossa and Salei.
sixer 37 Report post Posted February 25, 2008 I'm really praying that if Kenny does make a deal for Sundin, Hossa, or anyone else whose contract is up this year that they must be re-signed before giving away anything. I'm really worried were going to get Sundin and then he'll go back to T.O. next year. Please re-assure me this will happen Kenny!!!

sixer 37 Report post Posted February 25, 2008 If Holland does go big and gets Sundin or Hossa, he will make sure he's getting them past this season. Book it. If that's the case, then I think we can cross Sundin off the list. There isn't enough time left for Sundin to make up his mind and for the Leafs to agree to the trade pending negotiation with Sundin's agent for extended contract. Nevermind Sundin loves the Leafs and would want to come back to them next year. Hossa it is. Now I see why there's almost 1000 replies to Hossa thread. It's Hossa were most likely to land, and not Sundin.

And you know what? We lost to Calgary 1-0 on a fluke goal. You should actually start watching the games You should really start paying attention to the SEASON and not just the past two lousy games. And offense has EVERYTHING to do with whether or not we play our starter. If you don't think the Wings have issues up front, then you've got some issues yourself..Then again, Ive seen some of the posts you've made lately, and its pretty self-explanatory. And if you want to talk about recently, then theyve scored a whole 6 goals in the last 5 games. Edited February 25, 2008 by YoungGuns1340

Im not sure Fedorov would though...

GMRwings1983 8,802 Report post Posted February 25, 2008 I'm afraid were going to get stuck with another Cory Cross type acquisition. It doesn't look good for either Sundin or Hossa signing with the Wings right now.
