imisssergei 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 What is wrong with the NHL today? Hits like this need to be eliminated. Kovalchuk left his feet to hit Rozsival from behind. For a second there, I thought I was watching a Flyers game.

There ya go: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=36e_1201063360 EDIT: Damned, three fools having the same idea at the same time - trying to use a search engine... xD EDIT2: Roszival hadn't a chance to see this one coming. I guess it'll be something like 3 to 5 games for Kovalchuk... Edited January 23, 2008 by German Red Wing
wingslogo19 281 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 Thing is though, the refs don't always call it.. And good example is last week Rivet hit Morrow and there was not a call at all... I agree that this s*** needs to be stopped because one of these times someone's going to be in a wheelchair for life.. This hit was dirty there's no need for it in hockey, and i hope he does get suspended.. I know on Tsn last night, Pierre was talking about fineing the refs who don't call it, which i agree with.. How both refs miss something like that is bad.. I know when i was playing hockey as a kid in minor hockey, everyone player had a stop sign saying stop on it on the back of there jersey.. I don't know if it would stop the players from making stupid hits like this, but maybe on the other hand it would be worth putting it on.. Just my 2 cents
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 It is being investigated for possible suspension. Kovalchuk's comments: After the game Kovalchuk tried to explain the hit. "I just tried to finish my check, and he kind of turned right before I tried to hit him," he said. Is it just me, or is everyone else shaking their heads at the comments? When I watched the replay, it looked like Rozsival was facing the boards for quite a long while and Kovalchuk simply hit him from behind, jumped a bit no less. This isn't one of those turning at the last minute as Kovalchuk suggests.

How the hell can he say Rozsival turned on him and expect anyone to buy it?
datsyukonethree 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 For a second there, I thought I was watching a Flyers game. I don't know how serious you were being, but I saw the hit on a tv in a restaurant, and since I hadn't been paying attention until that point my first thought was "What did the Flyers do this time?" Turkey 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 I hope he gets 3-5. That would really send a message. As it stands, I don't know if anyone has any faith that the league would suspend a superstar. I'm even more sure I want to see this after reading his comments. Earth to Kovie, if Steve Downie had laid that hit on you half the world would be calling for his head. Talk about total disregard/denial about what he did. He's lucky he didn't injure the guy.
Wings_Dynasty 267 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 My guess, no suspension. He an all-star playing for the host city. No reason to piss off local fans.

Those cheap, dirty hits from behind should have no place in hockey.
Hockeytown_Ryan 122 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 should be a suspension and NOT play in the All-Star game a hit like that is dirty, what other all-star roster player hits like that (from behind)
Duck Guy 86 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 he should be suspended for that hit even though he is a "all star"

toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 a far as putting a stop sign on thier backs...yeah if you want hockey to become even more of a laughing stock then go ahead and do that. Well, I don't mind an open ice hit from behind as much (if you have the puck), but when you are facing the boards, you better damn well make sure there are stop signs put on the backs of players. I know guys personally that are not able to walk because of hits from behind into the boards.
Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 watch he gets suspended from all star game and NHL replaces him with Chris Kunitz hahaa i could just imagine the blow ups. not possible since Kovalchuk plays for Eastern club. Turkey 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 he has been majik in the past. Anyways i really think Koval needs a suspension but still allow him to play in all star game. I disagree. That game is a privilege and if a player is currently being punished for something they should have the privilege revoked.

All-star game does not matter, so why not, he has some skills he can show, but he should get some kind of suspension, and league's gotta be fair and show that not even star players can do such dirty stuff. Opie 308 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 I saw the replay of this last night and meant to start a thread this AM and forgot. This is the moment we have all been waiting for, when one of these dirty hits involves a big name guy. I thought the first time would be an all star getting hit, but I will take this too. This is when Bettman and Co. (Colin Campbell) will show their true colors, suspend him for 5 or so games and most will be happy, 2 or less and he will be questioned, 10 or so and everyone will believe that they are out to send a message (ala new NFL commish Roger Goddell sp). My gut tells me they wont do anything to Kovie, like some one else said he is an all star, home town all star game, no way Bettman and Co. crack the whip. I don't think it will be too many games, IF they do suspend him, because the hit on Bergereon only drew 2 games, and that wasn't an all star delivering the blow. I see this as a 10+ game suspension, this was not a stick swinging incident, he has no priors, but what he did was definitely in Downie's playground.
