Right now ... I'd rather see Guerin in a Wings uniform than Bertuzzi.

The main reason Guerin's health seems better. He was way too expensive too.

That said, Bertuzzi is a better fit for the Wings, and a healthy Bertuzzi is way better than a healthy Guerin IMO.

I'm in the camp of people who feel odd about this trade. he sure adds a lot to the team, but as a hockey fan and Red Wings franchise in general, I feel rather bad about seeing him with Winged Wheel. about the last player I wanted to put this sweater on his back. only Claude Lemieux is worse

the trade is a master-piece, though and with some luck we can have a huge and cheap force in playoffs

I have never been a fan of Bertuzzi, but I will swallow my hate and accept the inevitable.

BUT he better damned well bring it EVERY NIGHT with no exception. I don't want to hear any whining out of him, I want him to PROVE to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that he deserves to wear the Red and White. He's got to EARN IT as far as I'm concerned.

Datsyuk - Zetterberg - Holmstrom

Calder - Lang - Bertuzzi

but don't forget our other two lines, which come playoff time are going to be MUCH better. Wow.

Huddles - Flip - Sammy - 4th/scoring

malts - draper - franzen - checking/pk

Wait, what about Cleary? Crap! I'll put him in Maltby's place, scratch him.

Bert's on TSN right now. So far, he said he's extremely excited and can't wait to play with Lidstrom, Schneider, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and the rest of the team.

Fantastic Trade! The player, the return -- everything. It's golden!

Also: Bertuzzi was just on TSN...

- Happy to be with the Wings

- He met with Florida staff 3 weeks ago and it was made clear that the team would not explore re-signing him this summer. "The writing was on the wall." (What a return for Luongo, eh?)

- He is flying to Detroit tomorrow (Wednesday)

- He's not going to play right away and will take some extra time to make sure things are 100%. "It's fortunate that Detroit is where they are in the standings so there's no unnecessary rush to get in the lineup."

My take on this, from my blog (http://inultus.livejournal.com/)

The Red Wings just picked up Todd Bertuzzi, the power forward who is best known for his cheap hit on Steve Moore which broke his neck.

It is known throughout the league that the Wings have been in need of a forward with size and strength, as they have small team which is easy to push around. Every small, skilled team needs at least one "enforcer" who will payback any attempts by the other team to injure the smaller players. I realize that many people probably disagree with this method of play, however this is how hockey really works, from the beer leagues that I play in, all the way up to the professional level.

Bertuzzi is an enforcer who can also put the puck in the net, and here is a quick rundown of why I believe he will be successful (and a good fit) in Detroit.

As much as most Wings fans have hated Bertuzzi over the years, it was really more because of his strength and talent than because of his dirtiness as a player. And for those who did or do think of him as a dirty player, please remember that Chelios was considered one of the dirtiest players in the league when he came to us from Chicago. Now he is a Detroit mainstay.

Bertuzzi apologized for the Steve Moore incident, and IMO he was entirely sincere about it, not simply apologizing to hopefully get a reduced penalty. He has served his suspension (and the associated loss of money) because of his actions, and I think he is eager to put it all behind him.

Unfortunately, Moore will likely not play in the NHL again, and that is something which Bertuzzi will possibly always have on his conscience. This led me to wonder if he would stop playing his gritty game and turn into a softy who was afraid to hit anyone else for fear of hurting them.

This has not been the case although it is clear to me that he is more careful now when it comes to hits that could be considered dirty. He has been injured and is coming off back surgery so we must be carefully optimistic, however before the surgery he had 7 points in 7 games, good numbers by any standard. Welcome to Detroit Bert, play well and play clean!
