GDT 12/26 GDT : Red Wings at Nashville Predators, 8:00 EST
Wings_Toledo replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I know there's no use in complaining about it now, but seeing Jarnkrok on the 2nd line just makes me wish Holland would have gotten something more than Legwand for him... Or, at least dump Andersson so we would have had a spot for the kid. -
Could be worse. I ordered a jersey from FansEdge for my wife and it didn't fit so we returned it... only to find out they don't accept returns on jerseys so they donated it to a charity. So now we're out both the jersey and the money. Needless to say, I wouldn't recommend them.

12/20 GDT : Calgary Flames at Red Wings, 7:00 EST

Amazing how that happens when Ericsson's not in the lineup. -
Maltby was also a 50 goal scorer in Junior. Ericsson isn't known as a great fighter in the NHL. Tootoo can hold his own, wasn't given a fair shot in Detroit, and would be welcomed depth to a roster lacking some physicality. Also, you think knowing someone will come after you doesn't deter players from taking cheap shots? Yeah, it still happens, of course. But having a guy who can stand with just about anyone in the league makes you think twice.
-
Obviously I'm aware of Ericsson's size. I was referring to the fact that he's not known as a great fighter and, as you also said, he doesn't use his size often enough. Tootoo might be small in stature but when he's on the ice you know to keep your head up and not try to take a run at someone. Ericsson's presence has never stopped anyone from going after our star players.
-
He wasn't even given a fair shot by Babcock, that's for sure. I'd still like to have him on the 4th line of this team. Ericsson and Smith are the only guys on the team who will stand up for a teammate and they aren't exactly intimidating to the opposition...
-
If Giordano or Seabrook hit free agency I'd go after one of them and dump Ericsson. In the meantime I'm not sure who would be available via trade but I wouldn't be opposed to seeing more of a rotation, with E sitting every now and then.
-
And they still lost.

Looks like something out of NASCAR. Gross...

I have also noticed a tendency for Howard to let in the tying goal during the last ~5 minutes of the game. Without looking up any stats, I assume Mrazek doesn't do this quite as often. That's why Babcock started Mrazek in the playoffs last year and, hopefully, if they make the playoffs again this year Blashill will do the same.

I understand the need to have the most popular stars in the All-Star game, but with this 3-on-3 tournament, the Central is basically going to be the Blackhawks vs. Other divisions. Still, this is a great idea and good way to generate some interest for the All-Star game considering that it's been one of the most boring events to watch over the last 5+ years.

Howard is clearly the #2 behind Mrazek now. -
Why are the Wings making such bad decisions with the puck?
Wings_Toledo replied to Z and D for the C's topic in General
Well, for one, the defensemen that we have in the lineup right now aren't the best at making a first pass. Also, when teams close on us at our blue line like Carolina did last night, we tend to force passes and try to beat them with speed (which doesn't always work). It doesn't help that our centermen can't win a faceoff... -
The other thing that gets me about this play is (upon re-watching it multiple times) he clearly decides that he's going to go after Silfverberg before he even has the puck. I mean, he just makes a bee-line for him, tags him with a headshot and makes no effort to make a play on the puck. I think that's a big factor to why he got 41 games.
-
I agree that while 41 games is a good start, they should just remove him entirely. Although, their thinking may be that since he's an UFA at the end of this season that no team will sign him based on the fact that he'll probably just do something stupid again and be banned permanently from the league.
-
Never liked the guy and hopefully this suspension is enough to force him out of the league next season.
-
You're crazy.
-
On the flip side, Zidlicky showed up for training camp not even 24 hours after signing a one-year deal with the Islanders. So a 38 year-old with not a whole to play for at this point in his career made it on time. What's Ho-Sang's excuse?
-
I get the feeling that Larkin will definitely make the Wings roster full-time after this season and Mantha possibly the season after that. Larkin was a hell of a draft pick.
-
Thing is, they never would. I imagine that organization cares more about trying to win more Cups with their "core" than what people think about them employing an alleged rapist.

Curtis Glencross regrets taking hometown discount
Wings_Toledo replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Stupid move on his part to say these things when he's currently an unrestricted FA looking for a team willing to extend him if he plays well. Now everyone knows he'll seek the max amount he can get or walk. Is he really that upset that he missed out on signing a ridiculous contract so he could get bought out 2 years into it and be in the same situation he's in now? -
Travelling is stressful no matter how used to it you might be. The less time spent on the plane and in the airport, the better.

Taylor Pyatt Announces Retirement

I remember him being a pretty gritty guy who played a tough game and could score. Congrats to him on a successful career, albeit probably a shorter one than he would have liked. All the best. -
Remaing RFAs to be signed - Jurco, Pulkkinen, Aubry
Wings_Toledo replied to e_prime's topic in General
I'd say somewhere around 8-10. Unless he suddenly has a much larger role to fill I can't see him putting up drastically better offensive numbers. I'd love to be wrong, however. -
My point was that it's not all on the S and C coach. Every individual is different and may not be as injury prone as others. Commitment to training is also a factor. I just don't agree with people freaking out because he worked with the Pens and they coincidetally had some injury problems while he was there.
