I do not believe that not fighting is cowardly, and if it is, then cowardice should be encouraged. My lease favorite part of the game is fighting, I wish it didn't exist. That being said, I kind of agree with you that legal action may not have been necessary unless there was injury involved. Maybe they should look at tougher on ice discipline, like a suspension that's long enough to negate the philosophy that a player will instigate when they know that there will be no retaliation. I understand that in a physical sport fighting helps keep the cheap shots in check, so I guess I don't have all the answers for the world, but I do know that I think fighting is wrong.

But the opinion of the other side is that this particular call is often not made in the same situation so where you and I see it as a black and white call the others see it as being up to interpretation by the officials. If he was two feet closer to the boards would he have let it go? If he was hustling to bench instead of coasting? I haven't seen any evidence of non calls in similar situations (also haven't looked), but that was the argument, and it is an opinion and the difference of opinion caused some controversy.

Again, right call, but disputed by people's opinions.

It was controversial because there was controversy over the call. A lot of people thought it was a bad call while a lot of other didn't. That's what makes something controversial. It doesn't mean it was the wrong call, but the VS. announcers didn't say anything that wasn't true.

I don't know that this is entirely true. I think the game developed more in Canada, but it was more likely invented in the Netherlands where there is evidence in the form of paintings from the 17 and 1800's depicting people skating with hockey sticks and a ball. I wasn't there so I don't know for sure, but I read that in a book about the history of Hockey, I'll try and figure out where from exactly. Those of us from the U.P. know that hockey as a professional sport was born in the Keweenaw with the Portage Pioneers;) I don't know how true that is either but I have a shirt that says "Houghton, MI: Birth Place of Professional Hockey" Anyway...as someone else mentioned this team has maintained its success by drafting European born players that were leftover after all the North American players were selected. If we didn't do that we would not be a playoff team today and we have a lot more to complain about.

I agree with him and I'm from Michigan. I don't have a problem with fighting when it's used to police the game, but I don't look forward to fights. I wish that players wouldn't cheap shot so fights wouldn't have to be part of the game. I watch every game and DVR 'em if I can't catch it live. I don't know why we have to reduce every player to their nationalilty. This team has just as much heart as the late 90's teams, they just play a different game. I don't understand how this team is less entertaining. There is so much skill on display every game.

I think it's supposed to stop people who do it from still being able to have success. You can still pay your players unreasonable amounts of money, it will just make it harder to win.

Seems like a read a story a couple of years ago about Iginla paying for a hotel room for some out of town fans that he ran into. Off the ice he seems like a great guy.
