If it is for a 3rd and the rights to negotiate with Bernier as they are reporting, what a steal!

    2021 Draft

Sorry, I didn't mean to strike a nerve. Didn't realize you were such an Edvinsson fan. So I take it then that you would be happy if the Wings take him?

    2021 Draft

You know who had a high ceiling? Brendan Smith, Ryan Sproul etc. My point is I watch and watch and I just see a big clumsy kid who they say may improve some day. I look at these prospects and I don't think he belongs that high.

    2021 Draft

The more I watch Edvinsson, the less impressed I am. I don't get it if he goes in the top 10 because all of the experts basically say "don't look at what he is now, look at what he could be one day if everything goes right". I would rather take someone who has more to offer right now. That to me is not worth the gamble and I sure hope we don't take him.

Seattle Expansion Draft: Who you pick?

No doubt and I don't want to sound like a slappy but honestly if we can assemble a competent D, not great, just middle of the pack, we will be relevant much sooner than people think. And that my friend would be music to my ears.

Seattle Expansion Draft: Who you pick?

Does anyone else have the feeling that SY is not done with bringing in another quality D? I think he will give another team some cap relief before free agency or he'll work out a trade with Vegas for a D they got in the expansion draft. Last year we singed Staal, Merrill and Stecher. There are quality d out there for the taking and if we can get a solid 6 assuming Seider is what we think he is, we could surprise some people this year. Agree to disagree. I guess there are two Stecher camps out there. I along with many was impressed with him this year and thought he played well for team Canada. He brings much more skill than Lindstrom for example and he seems to have a great attitude. You are right though when you say we are talking about a 3rd pair d so whatever happens, it won't make or break us.

Seattle Expansion Draft: Who you pick?

I agree but one thing I don't get is why when we have a decent player why we always must trade him because they are over 25 or 26 and don't fit our timeline. Whatever happened to the days of having a well-balanced team with younger players and veterans? My point is for what he makes, why not keep him as a 3rd pair for the next 5 years? If every chance we get, we offload players because "they don't fit into our timeframe" then this rebuild will never be complete.

Seattle Expansion Draft: Who you pick?

yet he was our best defenseman so I guess that speaks volumes to our team. I actually think that Hronek took a step back this year. I think Stecher is an ideal 3rd pairing d and he doesn't break the bank so I hope he is around for a few more years.

Seattle Expansion Draft: Who you pick?

I think Stecher will be playing for the Wings this year so all of this is mute. They will take Cholo. Who wouldn't. A first round pick who does have potential and will cost less plus is 4 years younger. I think it goes: Cholo, Svech, Stecher

Seattle Expansion Draft: Who you pick?

Considering 6 of his 8 goals this past season were into an empty net, I don't think we would lose a thing if we lost Namestnikov. In fact, I think we would improve.

Seattle Expansion Draft: Who you pick?

My bad, thanks. The list I was looking at was not accurate. Cholo will be the pick Personally, I really hope they take Namestnikov.

What a joke. Leave one of our best D, if not the best exposed but protect DK???

    2021 Off-Season (Too Soon?)

I know that it might not look like a win for Detroit when you factor in that we had to give up a 2nd. I also agree that Stevie is not done yet so people need to trust him. It is ironic though that Detroit got Leddy because I am also an Islander fan, not as much as Detroit but they are my 2nd team and I know their players. During the series against Tampa, I was noticed Leddy made a good play in his zone and led the rush out and I kept thinking "man, this guy can skate and make things happen, I wish we had him on Detroit". Leddy may not score much but he will move the puck fast and the less time we spend in our own zone, the better. I remember a presser with SY where he said that part of rebuilding means accumulating as many picks as possible and not only to draft with but to make deals with and this is a case where dealing a pick was a benefit because seriously our defense needs help. I have a gut feeling though that we are going to take on another player to give a team cap relief and we are going to get that 2nd pick back. Bottom line is that Leddy is a legit defenseman, far from elite but who would you rather have as a top line left D, Leddy or DK?

    2021 Off-Season (Too Soon?)

I agree. I just checked out a Vancouver forum and some fans are very excited about the idea of getting Bertuzzi and some have even said "just give a 3rd rounder because he has injury issues". Other fanbases have no clue about how valuable Bert is. If Vancouver wants Bert, for me the conversation starts and ends with Brock Boeser, that is how much I value Bertuzzi. I would not even trade for the #9 pick straight up for Bert because I would have my doubts that whoever we would get at 9 in a weaker draft would add as much value as Bert. One thing none of us know though is what is happening behind the scenes. The last time they had to negotiate with Bertuzzi it was not easy and I could be wrong but I think they had to go to arbitration. There might be a situation going on where Stevie knows that Bert won't be an easy signing or that Bert values himself injury history and all, to be much higher than the Wings think he should be paid. I really don't want to see him traded. I would love to see how a Larkin-Vrana-Bert line plays out.

    2021 Off-Season (Too Soon?)

I know that this could also be posted in the trade rumors section but it also involves the off season so I'll put it here. There is something that I just don't get and maybe others can help me: I just saw that the Leafs might be interested in Bertuzzi. Bertuzzi is my favorite Wing and we are lucky to have such a unique player in my opinion. What I don't get is why everywhere I look his name appears to be thrown out there for trade ideas. Why would you give up a fan-favorite who never takes a shift off? People want to know why Larkin's numbers were down so much this year? It does not take a rocket scientist to see that it was because Bertuzzi was out. Bert does the heavy lifting on that line. Most teams would love to have a guy like Bertuzzi, including Detroit if they lost him. I would not trade Bert just to make a trade or because he is 26 (still a kid to me) and he "doesn't fit the timeline". That is ridiculous. We complain that we can't get high end talent and then when we do, all that we hear are trade rumors. I have even seen many Wings fans throwing Vrana's name out there for trades as well. Unless it is part of a package to get a superstar #1 center, guys like Bertuzzi and Vrana should be cornerstones here.

    2021 Draft

You said that they moved to 25 after Pittsburgh lost. Do you know if they gained another spot after Florida lost? All I have read everywhere is that we should be hoping any division winners or teams with better records than Washington lose so they gain spots. It is so confusing.

    2021 Draft

By my math they should be at #22. There was an article today where Helene St. James said that since Washington was beat out early, the Wings can finish no lower than 24th. Isles won = 23, Tampa won = 22. ??. We would pass both Pitts and Florida since Pittsburgh won the division and Florida finished with more points than Washington. I just looked at it again and we should be at 24 right now but if any teams that finished lower than Washington reach the conference finals (Boston, NYI) then we would gain another spot. I would still be happy with 24. I was worried the Caps would have a long playoff run.
