I'm not sure who Buffalo would have accepted in return from the Wings, or even if we wanted another small forward. If Savoie turned into a DCat then that would be worth it. Buffalo is really dumb and Savoie saves the Oil money.

What I mean is why make the trade? It's a waste of a 3rd if Guentzel doesn't sign and goes to FA Jake is signing for 7 years max no matter where he plays, other than Carolina, and there's no guarantee for Tampa that he won't just go to FA tomorrow and pick his best deal

Anyone know why Tampa would spit up a 3rd rounder for the negotiating rights to Guentzel? Come July 1st he could still listen to all offers couldn't he?

Just the NHL rules for not signing a 1st rounder. MLB if you don't sign a 1st rounder, the next year you get to pick one spot later as compensation. I guess the NHL wants to protect teams that are dumb.... lol

I hope not. What is Stamkos, Kane or Trouba really going to add? I'm hoping we go after anyone that plays a 200' game and is ornery. I'd rather see AJo, Kasper, Mazur and Berggren getting their feet wet this year before Cossa starts his domination tour.

Flyers got a comp 2nd rounder for not signing their 1st rounder from a few years ago. I think they picked him at 19 and now a few years later get the 51st (?), so every pick is one position later.

I think there's a reason we got a 2nd tossed in. I think Gibson is going to be a stud D. Boo hiss. For me solberg plays like Seider/Kronwall. He fashions himself a Seider clone, but I think his hitting is mostly Kronwall when he's facing a player and Seider when he is fetching the puck in our end. His offensive side is really good for a kid most scouts are saying is the best def D in the draft. I'm all for it if he's still there at 15, doubt it though.

Yep I get that, but I thought the kid wanted to turn pro and the Jets wouldn't guarantee a spot on the roster. We may have to pay more if SY thinks the kid is NHL ready, which probably isn't the case since he would probably want McG to excel in the AHL first.
