Well he knew we didnt have any #1 dman and he got his man in seider. He knew we didnt have a high end #1 line guy and he got his guy in Raymond. This year theres no one that screams high end #1 line guy or #1 d guy that will likely be there at 6 so he might turn to the #1 goalie need . Well most from what ive read say wallstedt is ahead of knight and askarov . Yzerman didnt draft a goalie prior cause we had alot of pressing needs and theyre were better options . Not this time around . We’ll see There’s only 32 #1 goalies so obviously alot of teams wont pick a goalie in the top 10 , that being said theyre wasnt alot of talk of top end elite goalies being available which is why some years no one even took a goalie in the first round to begin with . When scouts have been super high on someone who can be a game changer goaltender they were picked high . I think in like the last 15 yrs malcolm subban was the only 1st round goalie selected who was basically a bust? And he was like pick 25-30 and not highly regarded . Mostly everyone else was a #1 goalie Ya We’ll see what happens , i think both goalies will be gone in the top 20 . Wallstedt is a stud and someone will see a 6’6 goalie and wet themselves although im not sold on him. Again We’ll see

Again check out draft history past 20-25 yrs and see how well we been doing in regards to drafting goaltending Im not underselling anything this is from stuff ive read around and what many scouts have said on many podcasts ive heard . Why pick an eklund for example who ends up being a good 2nd liner if you can have one of the top goalie talents in the league? Sure youd rathee have a makar etc... but nothing’s saying theyll end up as good as those guys. Teams arent just giving away top end goalie talents Dont think johnson can be anything close to pettersson so give me wallstedt any day . That’s on mtl for not drafting properly and having an abundance of players 6 feet and under ... its on teams for making the right picks and striking gold with later picks which dont always happen. You cant blame the rangers not winning the cup with lundqvist etc.. when it takes a whole team to win . Hasek with buffalo dominated the league for a decade with a s*** lineup but as soon as he came to detroit he won. Its on yzerman to build a complete roster in all areas and we already have a #1 d guy imo in seider and if we add a #1 elite goalie with a solid d core which is where we’re headed and add raymond and future pieces we already have and through 22/23 drafts we’ll be in a great position Again theres nobody here this draft that screams franchise elite talent that will be there at 6 from what many people are saying . Youd rather take a chance and end possiblly have another repeat of the rasmussen draft ? Man most fans here are in for a rude awakening when the regular season format comes back . Outside of watching seider next season wont be fun times Now lets say your right , then what you get a goalie in 2022/2023? If there’s even someone worth taking in the first round mind you . We wait till what hes 23 and ready? So we’ll have a #1 by what 2028? When seider will be 27? Sounds like fun times ahead for the next 8-10 yrs Do you think teams wouldnt have taken vasilevsky in the top 5 if there was a draft redo?price wouldnt go in the top 5 again? Fleury? Maybe you should look at our draft history regarding goaltening the last 20 yrs and tell me how easy it is to draft a franchise goalie . There isnt top level elite talent in this draft according to many people besides the goalie (which is a position we desperately need help with) but lets pass on him cause we cant draft a goalie top 10 makes sense

The best is the lets get cossa at 22 crowd as if theyres no chance he wont be there and we end up with no goalie and petruzzelli walks . But its ok we can make a cup run through free agency with back ups the likes of greiss/bernier

I thought he left cause his mental health , if he quit the team why would we want him? Either way yzerman traded his ass already once i highly doubt hes on our radar . Id expect bergie to throw a 2nd or 3rd to seattle to take him and keep the allen/price tandem going while freeing up 5 mill cap space

If he wants to be a redwing in free agency it should be for the 23-24 season and it would be perfect timing and it would be when we’d be about to make some noise imo . Bringing in a motivated vet in werenski (who would cost us no assets) to go along with seider having 2 years experience under his belt , raymond hopefully with 1 and if theres any justice one of wright/bedard/michkov will be a redwing + wallstedt would be ready for prime time (ha im sure most ppl will love that last comment) anyways 23-24 is the season to start getting your hopes up imo , think some ppl will be in for a rude awakening next season when the regular format schedule returns . I dont think anyones gonna play next season from this draft so shouldnt be a problem . I thought they might draft beniers with them moving eichel mosg likely but if they deal him to like l.a they can get a byfield/turcotte back so i can see them picking powers most likely

Tryin to think of players like 24 and under that might be had for good value and turn into something. Prior to last season Patrick had back to back seasons of 13 goals and seeing how we can afford to give him ice time atm maybe he can bounce back and hit 20? Its not that i want him badly ,if we can pry a geekie or boulet for cheap might be worth a look .
