    Nah. But to say that the team is regressing with all these promising youngsters in the pipeline isn't what I would say. I like that Holland isn't interested in overpaying free agents and get handcuffed by the cap but wants to build the team slowly and surely through the draft to make sure that they stay competitive for years to come.

    Or could it be that Holland offered him the same but Lecavalier just wanted to go Philadelphia? No, it can't be. We all know that every free agent first wants to go to Detroit and if Holland bungles it up like he always does they start talking to other teams.

    The way Lecavalier has played the last few years $5M for five years is too much. Maybe for two years but not five. Lecavalier knows he'll get it somewhere so he's asking it. This is the cap world. In a few years it'll most likely turn out to be a dumb contract. You don't build your team by overpaying players who are on the decline but by underpaying young players who are on the upswing or veterans who can provide good grit and experience.

    When I was a kid in the mid-90's Jokerit was to me like Red Wings is now with a huge rivalry with TPS (that was like Penguins and their star Saku Koivu was like Crosby). A lot has changed since then. I don't care that much. I feel bad for their fans though.

    Iffity schmiffity. You sound a bit like my mother who makes up these scenarios in her head and starts worrying about them in advance. You can start worrying when Ericsson actually demands the $5M+/year contract.

    This is quite weird. I wouldn't be surprised to see their arena attendance drop as the team is leaving behind all their rivalries. The league is old and Jokerit is an old team and now they're basically destroying all the traditions. I don't think people will be that interested in supporting their team to win some unknown teams in a league that's based in another country.

    I wonder if this is just God's way of saying that there's too much diving in the NHL nowadays. The way teams like Sharks and Canucks play you'd think their arenas were flooded too.
